Yeah compiling, or as some others have commented, encoding/rendering video is probably pushing this little thing a bit beyond its comfort zone.

I might run some retro games on mine; Fallout 1-2, Torment and stuff like that. Light stuff.

There are two: 256gb for $913.75 and 500gb $1,127.75. You have to jump through hoops to get one, and if you go back a page or two their some instructions on how to get either.

If you prefer macOS to Windows it's worth it. If not, there are easier ways to get a new computer,

What are the easier ways? Looking to get a better computer for a friend.. and she just bought a $700 crap box from Dell. Hoping to find a better one so she can return it.

+1.
Once you go mac, you never go back :)
Macs just last a very long time and they never become slow/glitchy. And yes, also high resale value (especially since its a retina screen). If your friend isn't looking for high performance, any of the two macs (m3 or m5) would be sufficient.

Just received my 256 GB Macbook I ordered on September 11th. It came in very good condition, pretty much brand new. The battery had 3 charge cycles recorded.

I'm deciding between the Macbook or the Macbook Pro refurb. for $1679. I don't do any video editing, mainly for work. For those who got this what are you're main use and are there any limitations that you're having with the Macbook?

so im getting a quote for the ibm rep for
1 ) 12" Macbook Core M 1.1GHZ 8GB 256 SSD
2 ) 12" Macbook Core M 1.2GHZ 8GB 512 SSD

1) CAD$ 909 + tax (256)
2)CAD $ 1128 + tax (500)

Is option 2 that much better just to get double space to justify cost?

Upgrading hard drive space is almost impossible and the cost of a ssd hard drive is more than the price they are asking for the upgrade.
