Thanks for the review. Looks like the m3 in their tests was running an older version of macOS and so theoretically should be even faster than their numbers. The storage should probably be a bigger factor in m3 vs m5 decision.

For general usage the m3 seems fine.

Hey folks who have received their MacBooks, care to check the warranty status with Apple here, wondering if extended Applecare can be purchased.

I tried, it says cannot find the serial number. I guess Apple marked those machines as "Warranty will be covered by IBM" or something like that

For anyone looking for a cheap USB-C hub, doesn't have HDMI but this with a usb-c/hdmi adapter will be all I need.... sigh, why you do this apple.

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/5-in-1-USB-3-1-T ... SwhQhY30uh
would that hub do type C power pass through? I should be able to charge the mac with this hub connected to the power right? can these hubs cause damages if they're not made to standard?

I've been waiting for a Kaby Lake MacBook forever, but it's still not out. However, at this price the m3 MacBook would suffice. Unfortunately, the employee verification part is the problem. :(

BTW, is it correct you don't need both the employee name and number? It's just either/or correct? Is there a limit per employee? Sorry, it was not mentioned in the original post, and I haven't read the entire thread.

EDIT:

Is ANY small business OK, or are there specific?

No, you cannot buy AppleCare for these laptops. In fact, there is no Apple warranty whatsoever on these - only through IBM.

Have you already received it? What's the condition of it? I might know someone who wants it.

How soon after the IGF ORDER CONF & SALES AGREEMENT email did people get an email or call for verification? I received that email yesterday, and after the order number and before the date in the first line of the agreement it says /VER*. Is that what everyone is seeing? I have yet to be approached about verification.

I don't think I got that email you mentioned. I ordered and immediately got a "Your IBM Order: #xxxxxx approved and submitted to IBM" email and I don't have anything that says /VER* on it? Nothing else since.

The small business I used 1) isn't even operational as yet (but has a website) and 2) has no ties to IBM. Any small business works.
