Well IBMs are supposed to be the best, however Dell's Latitude line is really strong. The D610 also has a magnesium alloy chassis and case.
My D610 is:
Pentium M @ 2GHZ 533FSB 2MB Cache
1024MB DDR2-533 RAM
80GB HD 5400RPM
DVD Burner
Dual Batteries
64MB ATI Radeon X300 PCI-E Video
14.1" SXGA Display
Windoze XP Pro SP2
I got in early September, and I'm still very happy with it...
Of course the next person who responds to this thread will probably say they are happy with their IBM. Alas, all I am saying is that I travel to university with my laptop 5 days a week, and it's been flawless.

IBM T43 vs Dell d610
I'm looking for a used laptop, and got some pm's for the above 2 lappys.
14.1 T43 $1000 vs Dell D610 $750.
Although I like the ibm because its 5lbs vs the 5.5 of the dell, i'm not sure if its worth spending the extra money. I've heard all the talk about Thinkpads being really durable, but trying to justify the extra $250.
Any arguments to convince me either way?_______________

just got an ibm thinkpad x20. super thin, super light, super obselete. however, it's perfect for me, because i'm only using for surfing the web and office applications. x20 weighs about 3.5lbs. but with dock, it weighs 5.5lbs. whatyou get depends on what you'll needing it for, the dell is cheaper. but the T43 seems like newer model. IMHO i'd go with the ibm, keyboard and trackpad are amazing. the screen is beautiful aswell, probably better than my brother's inspiron 6000 uxga. no matter which one you choose both are great, no regrets either way. probably that's why it so hard to choose which one.

thanks for the comment guys. The d610 is no longer available, so no more comparison.
Is $1000 for the T43 a decent price? just outside my budget, not sure if i should hold out for osmething cheaper._______________

I have not used a Dell D610, but I had a pleasure of using T40 - T42 and Z60T, I just love the thinkpads! Though I wish their recovery partition is a bit less, but they do think of everything

I used a D610 last year at work and this year i have a T40. The T40 has a better chassis to it, but slightly slower than the Dell (1.6ghz vs. 1.5ghz). I wouldn't buy either of them because the screens suck on both of them with the Dell being the better of the two, (XGA). Get SXGA or better if you're getting a laptop, 1024X768 just doesn't cut it. There's more leakage on the T40 than on my old D610 as well.
