Ice cables-do's and don'ts

I need to install ice cables this year in order to stop a reoccuring leak.

I would like input on:

-Best brands, where to get them and deals

-Tips for successful installation

-Whole roof edge or just the problem area (chimney)?

I am in a semi-detached and have signifigant melt over the partition/fire barrier which causes water/ice to build up behind the shared chimney which has crappy flashing and it leaks somewhere around there.

I also intend to spray foam the top of the barrier to reduce heat loss. I have already added insualation to the attic with baffles and put inMaxi vents.
