You can use a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter, or get one of the USB or Firewire drive enclosures, or a IDE to USB converter. All will allow access to your data and available almost anywhere. Can't answer your filesystem question tho.

IDE 2.5 -> 3.5 - please help me
My laptop is broken, i need to take the HDD out of it and put it into my desktop to get some files off of it. BTW, is there any way to get WinXP to read LVM-EXT3 filesystem? Do I need a 2.5>3.5" Adapter cable to do this?
Please help me.
Thanks.

That cable will allow the drive to be read. They work well.
