Identify P4 3.06GHz Mobile or Desktop?
I have a zd7000 laptop with a 3.06GHz HT 533 CPU inside. How would I be able to tell if the CPU is a mobile or a desktop? What is the difference anyway?
I want to use the CPU on the MSI 651 barebone.
Please advice

you can use mobile chip (NORTHWOOD, 512KB Cache) in mega but it will run at 12x133 = 1.6GHz only. no way to adjust multiplier because chipset/bios do not support speedstep

Not true. Laptops also use desktop processors. Example would be IBM G series notebooks.

This is a desktop processor. This notebook is desgined as a desktop replacement.
There are quite a few difference between the desktop and mobile processors. Best way is to Google it and you will find an explanation.

I agree this is a desktop processor - AFAIK, Intel hasn't made any HT mobile CPU's (yet...). In the future, you can use CPUID to tell you what CPU you have in there.

So if Intel hasn't made any Mobile 3.06GHz then I guess my CPU must be a desktop version then!
I went to a zd7000 forum for my laptop and people post pictures on how to swap the CPU for my laptop... very interesting. They were using a desktop 3.2 northwood.
