Guys, its an indoor umbrella. It can't stand rain, wind, make sure putting UV cream on it every year. I bought one from Lowes, only the look saves it.
umm you are right.

"The umbrella does not provide protection against reflected or scattered solar ultraviolet radiation. Always fold the umbrella when not in use and never use it when it is windy."

mayb i should save the money and get a proper patio umbrella. thanks anyway

Pretty sure this is an outdoor umbrella. When does it ever get windy indoors?

JYSK has a similar umbrella on sale for $79.99 store wide. The umbrella is 300cm so slightly smaller than the $279 Ikea one, but it is cheaper. Base weights not included though.

Wow base weights are "on sale" for $32 for 1 piece. You need 4 pieces to make a proper base. That's $128 before tax for the base.

Also your post lists the sale price of the JYSK Umbrella and the full price of the IKEA Umbrella + base.
The price difference for the Umbrella only is $20.

Really...does not protect against rain? For UV, that means discoloration in the future right? Can anybody attest to how difficult the upkeep is, of putting UV cream on? Do you spray it on, rub it on? What's the cost of UV cream?
Is the savings of buying a cheaper umbrella worth it compared to those $1k umbrellas at Costco? If you have this ikea umbrella, would you recommend it?

If your patio umbrella does not have "sunbrella" type UV resistant fabric it will fade and deteriorate quickly. By the 2nd season you will be throwing it out.

Who said it doesn't protect against rain?

As for UV, this is directly from the product page.

"The fabric gives excellent protection against the sun’s UV rays as it has a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) rating of 50+, which means it blocks 98% of the ultraviolet radiation."

I believe this is for the IKEA Vaughan location in Ontario only.

Another poster made mention of the IKEA in North York (Ontario) selling the Umbrella for $150

Although I don't disagree with your calculations, the base that comes with the Ikea umbrella does not have any weight to it.

Each section of the umbrella base must be completely filled with sand. Approximately 50 lbs of sand (1.25 sand bags of 40 lb each) are needed to fill all four sections, giving a total weight of about 200 lbs.

The base weights from JYSK are 18kg each so you really only need 2 of them. I personally prefer to have base weights rather then to have to fill up a base with sand, but to each their own. Have you ever seen those portable basketball nets on the street with either water or sand filled into the base to keep the net from tipping? Same concept. It gets messy after a while.

Or you can buy the umbrella at JYSK and the base seperately from Ikea for $79.99 (+ sand)

If you're referring to the quoted:

"The umbrella does not provide protection against reflected or scattered solar ultraviolet radiation. Always fold the umbrella when not in use and never use it when it is windy."

It's saying that if the sun is behind the umbrella, you're protected from the sun, but if the sunlight is shining off a window that isn't covered by the umbrella, that you are not protected from that reflected light.

I picked one up at IKEA Burlington this weekend. Umbrella price is the same ($99.99), base price was ($79.99). They just had a huge pile of them sitting in the warehouse. This this is really big. We like it for our new patio set. :)

Picked up 5 bags of sand from Home Depot for $28. We're happy.
