Bought it yesterday, the umbrella is huge. You definitely need to weigh it down, I'm just using some extra patio stones. I like the ability of it to rotate around 360 degrees.

It does NOT protect against the rain! Guarantee!
Who on earth is looking for these things to protect them from anything more than a quick sunshower.

If the rain really starts coming down you may want to seek shelter indoors and not under a big aluminum umbrella.

It may sound odd, but these types of umbrellas only provide shade. My $400 similar one from Lowes could stand 10 mins in light rain, then water sipped through and dripped. You can try the next heavy rain and let us know.
I heard the one from Sunbrella can handle the rain. Cheers.

I've had a Sunbrella 12'x12' patio umbrella purchased from Costco for $500 for 6 years now, and aside from some fading on the base it looks like new.
I can't vouch for its prolonged water resistance because I've never sat under it for longer than 10 minutes while it rained.

This Ikea umbrella was for my inlaws.
I don't believe they're the type to sit under a patio umbrella during heavy rains but I'll take your word for it that it's not waterproof.

Ikea will price adjust so long as there's stock remaining on the floor.

As stated in the first post, the Ikea Vaughan location has the base on sale for $60 instead of $79
Thanks OP, picked one up. I have an old Ikea one from midnight madness years ago that is similar to the one as the JYSK. This one is much better if you have the space. It's big, can swing around and tilt to provide shade in any direction, and it's aluminum and won't rust except for the base, which is better than my old one which began to rust on the pole after a year and the crank start jamming with water getting in. For $99 it's an awesome deal!

Was about to pick this up but I saw an even better deal at Aurora RCSS for basically the same thing. Original price is 149 with an advertised sale price of 59.94. Scans in at 39.94. Item number 058703467262. Base needs to be purchased separately and they had none at the location I went to.

Saw about 15 or so left at the end of the night yesterday.

I used sand, works great. make sure to drill some holes on the bottom to let the water out when it rains.
