Make sure you back up EVERYTHING first. I tried installing OSX on my laptop and it wiped my partitions. I should have read the instructions![]()
Oh well, I didn't lose important stuff anyway. All of my files are on my desktop.

I'm making the switch to Mac....sort of (dual boot ahoy!)
As you have seen in recent days I have made a few remarks about Apple producing some less than desirable hardware (although I have to admit some of it is freakin' amazing, like the Mac Pro 8 core!). I don't really feel that Mac's offer that much more; however, I like to try everything I can.
My solution is loading up Mac OS X onto my thinkpad as a dual boot. I am sure that some of you have already done so. All of my hardware on my thinkpad has Mac drivers available for it, and I am pretty thrilled at giving it a whirl.
I am expecting some pitfalls, I would like to know if anyone here has done this and what some of the pitfalls of doing this are.

Nice to see that you used one of my post's as your sig :P
Anyways, Just to let you know that installing OS X is Illegal if you don't own it, but I'm sure you have a "disc" laying around somewhere.
Goto the forum on thinkpads.org and there is a whole subforum dedicated to OS X on Thinkpad's. I think that there are a few ppf patches to get all the drivers working (on some the wifi won't work)
And technically, you aren't really "switching to mac," your just installing OS X...Last edited by Desolatax; Apr 5th, 2007 at 08:13 PM.

I hope you guys are aware, installing Mac OS X on your Thinkpad is illegal even if you buy it. Apple license says you can only install Mac OS X on an Apple branded computer.

And I hope teenagers in high school are aware that underage drinking is illegal too.
And so is jaywalking.

Argh! I ended up giving up, I could not do an install without completely erasing my partitions and starting over. I wiped my hard drive too many time and I got tired of doing full restores. I am probably going to install a second hard drive in the computer so that I can do this, I need the extra storage anyways.

What install disks did you use for OS X? Just curious.

OSX isn't worth it, in my humble opinion. I'm using an iMac C2D 2.0GHz (upgraded to 2GB of RAM) and I solely use Windows. It's a beautiful computer with a tiny footprint, but I just never got into OSX.

I've come to love OS X. I was a hardcore mac hater before, I only used Windows/Linux, but now I actually like OS X, It has come a long way since the first release of OS X (last version I used) and I hated OS 9. Lots of great freeware, the OS runs fast and stable, and I can boot into windows (or use parallels) for the windows apps I need to use. Apple has done an amazing job on 10.4.9. I ran OS X the first release on a powerbook G4 i picked up for $100 and it feels so featureless compared to the latest version (and with leopard coming, time machine
) Now I have to get a 17" Macbook Pro! Man those things are beasts.
