i'm pissed off!
ok so I'm working at my first full time job that isn't under the table. I've been working here for 3 years. So I guess I have to pay msp to the government but no one told me this, it is just supposed to come off my paycheck. Well they screwed up here, and they weren't taking it off mine, but everyone else was getting it taken off their paycheck. So I talk to the HR dept and they said sorry but they can only help pay 70% for the past 6 months, the 2.5 years before that I am going to have to pay the government myself. That's about $1500 that I owe, plus 30% of the past 6 months! so now I owe almost $2000 because the HR dept screwed up! I just bought a house 5 months ago and we had our first baby 3 months ago so I don't really have $2000 lying around to pay to the government for msp! they said I should have known that it wasn't being taken off my check but I've never even heard of msp up until a few days ago! grrrrrrr

Just explain your situation to the government...they should be pretty understanding and allow you to make the payments in installments rather than one big chunk.

Congrats on the new house and the BABY!
The government will always rip and piss you off.
You really have to keep your eyes on them, and seriously watch paystubs/taxes.
I know times are tight, but I'm sure you'll find a way to get through this. Call the government up and explain the situation. The may make some 'arrangement' with you.
Good Luck.

ya I do, but I didn't even know what msp was up until a couple of days ago, I had never heard of it until a co-worker wondered why it wasn't being taken off my paystub.

Hey, think about it this way...
you are getting a great deal. HR is willing to pay 70% for the last 6 months. Great deal I say!
Wouldn't doing your income taxes make you away of the problem??_______________

thanks people for the advice about making payments to the government.
ya msp is mandatory in BC if you make over $x (i think like 15000)... as far as I know (which isn't much) it's the basic medical the province gives us? I could be totally wrong, since I only knew about it a couple days ago but that's what some co-workers told me.
