Import tax...
Couple days back I imported goods from Nepal worth of $1100.00. The customs charged me 18% tax. I was told form other similar business that they should only charge 5% because they have some treaty. Anyone had similar problem.. I was wondering if they will be able to refund the money and I tried calling the customs office but they close at 4:00PM..

Nepal has two † ‡ meaning that its one of the least developed countries. But i am not able to find the % of tax rate.. I am pretty sure that it's 5% duties on all handcrafted goods from Nepal.
thanks

The fun and games of import tarrifs. I had Hercules transport that went out of there way to get me to pay. And they wondered why I started using someone else... If you look in the tarrif tables it's not hard to find the code you need that has a zero or low %. Just get your supplier to state the tarrif code on the import documents.
Who collected the taxes? Was it Canada Post?

My shipment came by Air Cargo. I have to go to the airport to get them. First I had to go to the customs and get everything done.. then had to make the payment. The Cargo Customs charged me 18% not Canada Post. I did try to find the code.. but can't seem to.. well will give it a shot again..
