Fight it for sure!!!
It's not that hard if you can take some days off. It'll save you $259+tax (heck that's the cost of a Wii), plus a 50-75% reduction of your fine if you arrange a settlement on the trial date.

You're not going to win fighting it yourself. They're very strict on enforcement & convictions for misusing HOV. Will 3rd party representation do a better job? I don't know, I haven't heard of too many cases posted online. If you can afford someone to fight for you then go that route.

If you don't have a legit defense for the guy at TTS then you won't need him to properly argue your defense. All he'll do is the paperwork that you can do yourself. As long as it's not a hassle to take the half day off to file papers (you can fax in disclosure requests but need a 1/2 day off to file the rights defense to the courthouse, though can fax that to the prosecutor and to the provincial / federal offices) and a half day for the trial then do it yourself. Oh the rights thing is for if your trial date is over a year after the offense date.
On the day of trial see if the officer is there (99% there), then when the prosecutor calls you up, they will offer you to plea. Actually, not 100% sure for an HOV violation. I believe that they have re-instated the First Attendants meeting. If so, you might just want to call them up and arrange one, to see what they will offer. That's another 1/2 day off but may be worth seeing your options.

Fight it to get it reduced.
And stay out out of the HOV, or car pool._______________

That's untrue. There's no late charge if you're not "late". Well if you only have a $60 fine, they can probably only reduce it to like $30. If it's that small, then just do the first attendants meeting and get it reduced and pay the $30 and don't bother with the other stuff unless the trial date is over a year later. Either way fighting it will probably get them to offer a 1-point deduction.

Thing is - I can get speeding since on some roads, you have to move at the flow of traffic.
I can get improper right/left turns since some people really don't know and it's hard to see signs sometimes. Ditto parking tickets.
Heck, I can even understand how people can rationalize running reds (it was yellow) or stop signs.
But really, how can anyone rationalize being in an HOV lane and not knowing you shouldn't be there?_______________

For the reason you mentioned (What if I have to turn right) they are seldom enforced on streets like Eglinton and Don Mills. That was one of the big reasons the HOV lanes were positioned on the left side of the highway so there would be no reason to be in there for reasons other then car pooling.
Where they enforce the right lane is places you can't reasonably make a right turn, such as allen road just north of Shepard. They even do motorists the favor of putting a sign "Enforcement Area" and people still get busted. They are there pretty much every friday afternoon. Also busting speeders rushing southbound to the 401.
