Interview at Enterprise

I have an interview at Enterprise Rent a Car coming up soon and I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with them. Any tips on the sort of questions they have or what sort of answers they look for. I hear they're pretty good to work for but if anyone has any reasons not to work for them that would be great to hear too.

But really... how bad could it be? I mean... they pick you up!

i have a friend that worked there and he called me before going, i told him most questions would be customer conflicting, and dealing with cash and credit cards.

I can't word the questions for you but they will mostly look for your independent skills and how you would engage a leader/supervisor.

But yah.. the trainees...make like 9-10 an hr... no commission...

Well I'm not planning on making a career out of it. I just need a job to hold me over for the next year until I go back to school.

In the meantime though... anyone here from Waterloo know of some good places to work? I'm not having much luck finding anything decent.

There is no such thing. The whole company is ppl who went thru MT program to get up. So he must've done that. There is no corporate sales for rental cars, its area managers who work those.

I know I used to say that money is too good as well because if I had referred anyone, it was instant $1000 for me.

Trust me, I know the game inside and out. I was begged by their HR to stay due to my strong numbers. Its a great game for people with no major academic background and allows opportunities but trust me, there is no glory in working 70 hrs weeks to make $32,000 for a Management Trainee. and he told me that was makin high 5 figures to keep me in! I found out otherway about his real pay cheque.
Its just like a retail job in the end with retention of less than 40%

My manager was making $42-25ish with commission for running his branch. His base was $35K. If you go in thinkin that its just that and nothing more, you will enjoy ur experience.

I'm looking into RIM right now. They don't have a whole lot for someone like me (BSc in Biology). I'm sure I'll come across something soon. I have to. My money is getting low!

I worked there as well, many years ago, and can say that weedboy is pretty much bang on. Money is crap for a university grad, but if you have no other direction in your career right now, and just want money and experience, it's not that bad. Expect long hours, for sure. It's a decent company, though, aside from that, they are professional, and the environment at many branches is fun.

As for getting the job, I wouldn't worry too much, their criteria is fairly low. They prefer university grads, and people who are go-getter and career growth oriented. Do NOT mention that you only plan to work there for a year, or you will not get the job.

Well I got past the round one interview. It wasn't too hard. Just the basic "Tell me about a time when...." questions. She showed me how their pay works and of course made it sound pretty good.

Like I said though... it's only temporary!

Any ideas on what the second interview is like?

When I worked at Discount, they had hired a guy who finished 3 interviews with Enterprise only to be declined. I mean, what kind of a genius do you need to rent cars? its def not a job I would do! Discount had a base pay + commission on Collision damage waivers sold. It's a very stressful job and like I said, you have people bit*ing at you left and right.

Well to make things worse, you actually need post secondary education to rent cars! Like, are you kidding me?!?! Yes, my economics degree will sure come in handy when renting someone a car. Like, WTF?

I never knew it was this bad though. I rented a few times from them, but never let them push me around as I let them know straight up that I was in the industry and know insides and outs.

Its a real surprise though to hear how they rape their customers on upgrade fee's. While at Discount, if we didn't have a car, they would get the next class up at no extra charge, unless they reserved an Accent, and we had a Chrysler 300 .. In those instances, the upgrade fee was $10 which was the most ever charged and had no effect on CDW which was fixed no matter which car you rented.

I still rent cars at Discount due to them being the cheapest, and after a year of me leaving, there is only 3 guys that are still around from when I worked in the whole city (3 different locations). Turnover rate is crazy high and I see job postings on workopolis every few months.


To anyone looking at a job in the car-rental business, I'd suggest looking other places.

Discount is using the same model as enterprise now. Same sh1t, different front.

Upgrades are free at enterprise as well, just that they have too much of upselling to get promoted, so you will get shady managers trying to live above poverty.
