The basic ipad is now $419. What do u think on the following options i'm considering:
1) go for it
2) get ipad2
3) wait a bit and see what gets offered during summer.

Wait a bit. The refurbs will no doubt be less than the $419 - and an Apple Refurb is just like a new product.
Also I'd wait for some reviews on the iPad 2, and the other rivals. I'm sure the iPad vs iPad 2 threads where they actually compare the two side by side will start to appear sooner or later (after they start selling of course)._______________
Nom nom nom.

I would buy the ipad2. For $130(or less, I hope) more, you can get a faster, thinner, lighter one with cameras. Not mention the white color, smart cover and hdmi connector options.

Nobody complains about the speed of the 1st gen one; it's pretty heavily limited by the max speed of the iPhone anyways for most apps. The HDMI is compatible with the 1st gen as well; just limited to 720p instead of 1080p with the new one. Light, thin and the cameras are the main advantages of the new one, if you want to pay $200 more for the 2 (ya, I am comparing the refurb vs the new one, since the refurbs of 2s will not be available for a LONG time) then go for it, but I'd say the 1 is a FAR better deal.

If you want a fantastic deal, get the refurb ipad at $369 - - if you want the latest and greatest technology, get the ipad 2 at $549.

OP, it really depends on what you want. Will you use the camera feature? I personally wouldn't. I always have my cell phone on me, actually an iphone 4. Does the same things as the ipad camera can do. Only on a larger screen. The faster processor is nice. Its thinner and lighter. I could see some exclusive apps just coming out for the ipad 2, because the ipad 1 processor is too slow.
I'm not upgrading my ipad to the ipad 2. I will wait until the ipad 3 comes around. The reasons I won't upgrade. I don't find the camera useful to me. I don't think the ipad is heavy, or thick by any means. Therefore thinner, and lighter doesn't really appeal to me. What I do like is the processor speed. I saw a video on engadget, and think the extra speed is useful. I think the speed of the original is by fine too.
I say, if you find the camera useful, and want the extra speed, sure go for the ipad 2. If not, just stick with the ipad._______________

Smart cover is extra and the white colour just screams vanity. It's like people going through painstaking effort to procure a white iPhone from Asia.. sigh.
iPad2 spec wise is already worth the price difference and going by Apple's track record, they will likely make use of the faster processor in 1 or 2 firmware iteration making the old one very sluggish or completely obsolete to use *cough* iPhone 3G *cough*
If the iPad serves your purpose though then I would jump on the refurb version like a fat girl on a donut. Half of my Apple product stable consists of refurbs and I can't tell the difference except the plain vanilla brown box they come in.

Just to complicate matters now there are rumours of an IPad 3 for fall. Probably with the hi-res screen.
