Interesting opinion. I bought the PB Comics app and find it truly painful to use. Page turning (using the screen) is virtually impossible. That doesn't happen on the Ipad Comic Rack...very smooth page turns. Also, no good book reader for the PB is infuriating! And reading in bed with the PB is too much on my already weakened eyes. Had to switch back to the Ipad for that. Videos are good. I read that they will add MKV support to the player under 2.0. Can't fault that but it should have been in there in the first place. Hopefully it can then do meta data scraping like in XBMC.

I'm using the PB Comics app, and disagree. Wouldn't surprise me if the Ipad app is way better, but calling the PB app page turning painful is serious exageration. Needs updates, sure, but the developer has been good in the past with putting those out in a reasonably timely fashion.

Number of iPad sold - around 40 million
Number of playbook sold - estimated to be around 1.5 million (mostly at clearance to get rid of inventory).
I think the markets have clearly spoken on which is better (from user perspective, not technical spec). It is not even close (for the average user), but I suppose everyone is different. For 99% of my use, the iPad is great (don't even turn on the PC/notebooks anymore). I am sure Playbook could probably address most of my use as well, but with no android support or email client, it is a non-starter for me.
I fear it is too late for RIM even if they do come up with a new OS in 2013. Thankfully I sold RIM stock when it was $70 and bought Apple stock then.

To be honest, I credit Apple's marketing campaign more than anything for their high market share. This is just my opinion, but I find the iPad to be inferior both software and hardware wise to other tablets...and its sold at a higher price. Granted, Apple has the best app selection by far which is definitely a huge credit to them.

While Apple's marketing is clearly superior than almost everybody else right now, I don't think that is the key reason here. Even if Apple's great marketing force was pushing the Playbook (without iOS or Android support), it wouldn't have seen much more sales. Playbook was DOA. In fact, I am sure Apple wouldn't have even bothered launching a half-completed product to begin with. RIM has paid dearly for that mistake in terms of $ and negative brand goodwill.

It IS painful. Okay, I'll try it right now. Hmm...opened comic and comic image resized itself for no reason at all (made itself smaller so I have to pinch it back to the correct size). Now I try to move the page by dragging my finger right to left...and the page bounces off the left side of the screen like it hit a wall! And again. And again. And now maybe I have to slow down my drag and it....crawls to the next page. Okay, open the navigation controls on the top of the screen and use that. Okay...that works but very inconvenient. With my Ipad 2 open in Comic Rack...page turn by flicking the page with my finger works perfectly. No lag either. No bouncing effect. Just like using the book reading app. Only good thing about the PB comic app is it's easier to load the comics onto the device by dragging and dropping them into the window and deleting them using Air Browser and file delete (the Ipad 2 Comic Rack sometimes loses the comics that get loaded so it can be a pain at times too...but it does that infrequently). But not worth my sanity trying to make the PB app work as it should. At least the author is aware of the shortcomings of his app and is trying to make changes and add new requests. Hopefully this gets addressed or else we get another app to compete with this for use in OS2.0.

I'm not trying to start an argument with you D, and will not reply any further for that reason, but I suggest that you learn how to use the app interface before you comment further. The fact that the interface is different than the Ipad app is insufficient justification for your comments. A simple double tap, in the correct area of the screen, is your friend.

Okay, if you don't want to reply that's fine. Can anyone else tell me where to double tap on the screen to get it to turn the page? I have it open right now (landscape mode). Coordinates please...I'm tapping all over the screen but nothing is happening! Switched to page mode...same thing. Tapping all over the screen and on the bezel and nothing. Grr. Have to use the pull down navigation *again*...
Now I crack open the Ipad 2. Go to Comic Zeal. Open comic. 3 ways to turn page:
1) Navigation controls at bottom of screen.
2) Single tap centre right edge of page
3) Flick page with finger.
Simple, no?Last edited by DougO; Feb 11th, 2012 at 08:59 PM.

just got a pb last week, great for watching shows on the train (main reason i bought it)
but the browser sucks ass its soo damn slow. surfing rfd has never been so painful, lags after every refresh.
yes it plays flash, but whats the point its so damn slow, my iphone browser is much better/faster. im thinking of returning it while k still can.
keyboard sucks too, no double tap spacebar periods, stupid num keypad, i prefer the numbers across the top like iOS / Andriod. trying to type something and going back in the middle of the word is painful, just hate it.

^ I find it slow on rfd as well. I assume its because of all the ads floating around the site. For me I swipe down when in the browser. Go to content and disable javascript.
That makes the browser much faster but then it becomes a pain to search
With 2.0 around the corner I am sure it will be fixed. I know the double tap feature you mention will be because I saw a video of 2.0 running and it looks pretty kick ass!

Oh I guess I didn't give my 2cents on what tablet I prefer. For me its the playbook. I like the size and portability. The swipe geastures are amazing and the multi tasking is far superior to others.
The only place that the pb trails is in apps but it has everything I've ever needed/wanted.

Really?
Please explain to me how the IPADs softward and hardware are inferior to any other tablet?
NAME ME ANY TABLET that has put out better Benches?
There are NONE. The only hardware that is SLIGHTLY better is the new quads in android tabs.
When it comes to Hardware, Apple has the industries BEST hands down.
In terms of software, AGAIN, Apple has the market figured. Just take a look at how Androids Handel's webpages. If you think their solution is better then Apples for a touch interface, your plain wrong.
Also, look at HWA. TBF, android has had one form of HWA for the longest time, but it's not till ICS that it can be activated on all apps. EVEN THEN it isn't as smooth as Apples offerings.
ATM, the only tablets that came compare to Apples are the offerings from HTC due to HTC Sense and the software improvements they have made. Being an android user since the G1, I wont TOUCH a device without HTC Sense.
