The beginning of the end...
Apple's iPhone is their main bread and butter and if they don't do well in this space, sales in other segments will follow.

I also read lt will be the first (like the microSIM card) nanoSIM card.
Do you really need SIM cards to get this small.
If Apple is going to change the Connector why not just go with microUSB. Which means if you have Docks you will need to buy an adapter.
I love Apple but I hate when they do **** like this._______________

This is gonna be the 1st iPhone after the Steve Jobs era, so you may find some things to be different. But I can gaurntee you two things will remain. The dock connector and non-removable internal storage (source of apple's hefty margins).

Well, they've used the existing connector for over 10 years. It had to change at some point. microUSB has limitations over their proprietary connector, so being common isn't going to be a great reason for them to switch to that.
With the nanoSIM, people had the same complaint with the microSIM but now we see other companies using it because of the advantages. With the nanoSIM, there were many companies pushing for a smaller standard, Apple was just one of the and their design ended being selected. But with or without Apple's input, a smaller design was coming. Apple is just the first to move to it (if they have)._______________

Everything I've read says Jobs was heavily involved in this product before his death, so it probably isn't really the first post-Jobs device.
How does the dock connector drive heavy margins for Apple? Accessories are an infinitesimal portion of their revenue. Even the 'Made for iPod/iPhone' program generates relative peanuts. The onboard storage restriction could help the margins by forcing people to the higher margin devices with more onboard storage. Just not sure I see how the connector could be argued to drive margins in any significant manner._______________

Why is it called the iPhone 5, when clearly this is the 6th iPhone to date.

This rumour has it that the new iPhone dock connector "could be a 19-pin port that would be mechanically and electrically compatible with the micro-USB standard".
The theory is that Apple would have engineered this new dock connector in order to comply with the European Union directive to standardize chargers around micro-USB. This would make the iPhone compatible with the standard set by the European Standardisation Bodies CEN-CENELEC and ETSI, as well as by the Open Mobile Terminal Platform.
At the same time, such a custom design would be able to do all the things that Apple and third party manufacturers need for iPhone and iPod peripherals. That includes hardware controls, digital data, audio, video, and power.
If this is true, it would be good news for consumers. They would be able to use any micro-USB cellphone charger and they would be able to keep their current peripherals working with the new iPhone by using an adapter like this one, imagined by Italian blog Mela:
It will likely be simply called the new iPhone, as they did with the latest iPad.
