iPhone 5 Gift ... Apple Store ...

I received a SEALED iPhone 5 16GB as a gift ...

I was wondering if I could bring it into an Apple Store to have it exchanged because I do not know if it is unlocked or not ...

I'm not an Apple user ... and I'm thinking of re-gifting it overseas to a relative ...

Any ideas?

Why not call them to find out first? I don't think that they will take the phone away from you if it is locked to a carrier. I don't think you will allow it to happen either, unless.....

Tried it today ... Apple said that the phone is locked to Rogers ... and that there is nothing that they can do ... except to have Rogers unlock it for $285 ... so full of crap!

I'm going to try to go to a Rogers Store to see if I can exchange it for a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 ... since the iPhone has no contract and is still sealed.

How do you know is not on Contract. Maybe the person that gave you as a gift did sign a contract. But gave you the phone, and he/she is on a contract right rogers but using own phone
