So what are the advantages of jailbreaking the 3g iphone?

it should be in the tech discussions area - not really a deal since it's:

1. free so in freebies would be the next logical place
2. more discussion based, similar to pandora for your PSP or 360 mods
3. if this were a service to which you needed to pay money and there was a special on the price then sure, Hot Deals would be the right place

1. with the pwnage software you can unlock the phone. which isn't such a big issue anymore. since most countries have it. but it's always nice to have an unlocked phone.

2. jailbreaking allows the owner of the phone to add 3rd party applications.
this means, you can get ringtones, themes, fully customize the background, and add apps and games.

but if you just want the phone for making calls and a ipod. then don't jailbreak it. it voids the warranty.

yep.. and lets hope your not under contract with your iphone, because if you void your warranty, apple isn't going to do anything about it.. that means.. your phone is gone, plus you have 3 years of contract left with no phone.. and if you have a data plan with it.. your even more screwed.. just a heads up.. if you really believe your apple product will last you. then go ahead, jailbreak it. But for those who are worried about warranty, then just don't try this..

you can always restore your "unlocked" iphone to a "locked" phone by just

restoring your ipod, it's that simple. if you this by pressing the power and center button, then itunes will ask to do a restore or not..

after doing that you just activate your phone again.

I don't see how it would since unless they are tracking IMEI's and you try to change yours, or if they are doing packet inspection and you use some third-party software that's not allowed or causes them to scrutinize your account.
