Ipod Nano Screen Problems
I was thinking of purchasing a Ipod Nano, but I just checked on google and it seems that problems with Nano's screen has already started. Many consumers reported excessive scratches and broken screen. Any ideas or opinions?

I don't have a broken screen or scratched nano yet... but I do take care of my stuff better than the average person I would say...

Take a look at this.

Since being introduced almost four weeks ago the iPod nano has taken the MP3 market by storm, earning accolades from reviewers and industry analysts alike, but not everyone is completely satisfied. Some customers have complained about scratched and/or broken screens on their iPod nano, leading one user to even set up a Web site to outline his problems.
Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing Phil Schiller said there are two completely separate issues going on here. One is the broken screen and the other is the complaint about the iPod screen scratches.
iPod nano owner Matthew Peterson setup his Web site, flawedmusicplayer.com (formerly ipodnanoflaw.com), to share his grievances about his broken iPod nano screen. Peterson invited others to send in pictures of their iPod nano screens, which he posted to the Web site.
In addressing the broken screens, the first of the two issues, Apple said that they have tracked down the problem.
“This is a real but minor issue involving a vendor quality problem in a small number of units,” said Schiller. “In fact, this issue has affected less than 1/10 of 1 percent of the total iPod nano units that we’ve shipped. It is not a design issue.”
Schiller said that if customers find they have this problem, all they have to do is contact AppleCare and their iPod will be replaced.
The second issue deals with complaints posted on Web sites that say the iPod nano screen scratches too easy, perhaps even being more susceptible to scratching than previous iPod models.
Apple said that the screens on the iPod nano are made with the same material that is found in the company’s fourth-generation iPod, which, to date, is complaint free.
“We have received very few calls from customers reporting this problem – we do not think this is a widespread issue,” said Schiller. “If customers are concerned about scratching we suggest they use one of the many iPod nano cases to protect their iPod.”

I still can't get over that they discontinued iPod Mini. What kind of company discontinues their top selling product? They could have at least left both the mini and the nano side by side until after the holidays. Some people prefer the mini to a nano because of the durability of the metal casing and that it's not as small as a credit card.

Hence a gutsy/bold move by Apple!!
No other "logical" company would do that (ie. Dell, Creative, etc..)
I kinda hope they still have Mini just to have another option
but I'm okay with Nano, especially if they're willing to drop the price more, like $199 (2GB), $249 (4GB), $299 (for future 6GB or even 8GB?)

The Mini has already been discontinued? I figured it wouldn't happen for at least a year...

update?
I heard on the radio this morning something about Apple saying they would offer replacement screens for the nano due to the volume of people having problems with broken or scratched screens.
It sounds like they are very aware of the issue and are trying to step up to prevent consumer confidence in their product from going into the crapper.
If you are thinking of purchasing an Ipod Nano... I'd try to find an official source for the above info... but hey... how often do you hear false information on a morning radio show??

Funny, in the other post, so many people were saying it was the "users fault" but now Apple admits there IS a problem with some units. I'm actually surprised Apple is acting so fast with these iPods, (if you compare their track record with other iPods.)

It's like recalling cars, you'd rather replace/recall them instead of getting a bad reputation. Instead, you only lose a bit and get the good reputation of being responsible. It gave me a peace of mind at least as a Nano owner
Plus, they can always sell these Nano's refurbished (after fixing them) since there's only 0.1%
A spokesman for Apple tells the Journal that the problem has affected less than 0.1 percent of the devices shipped.

i wouldnt trust that 0.1% number since the nano is still so new and a lot of the affected units have not been sold/displayed their faults yet. if it really was that low, they wont even admit to it
but glad they admit to it so if anything goes wrong with mine i can have somethign to back me up.
