Sure. I'd love to see it permanent. Is there a link/quick way to load it up from this thread?

IRC channel (#redflagdeals on EFNET)
While the forums were down, some people went to IRC.
We could make this IRC channel permanent. It would cut down the volume of chatter in the some of the long threads and provide immediate feedback when needed.Last edited by malaca; Oct 16th, 2004 at 01:33 PM.

Perhaps it could be password only......passwords given by pm only to established members on some definition. Then when a deal neds to be limited (eg Maxell DVDs) it could be pre-published on IRC?

How about a different network, such as one with services? Then people can use registered names, and it's easier to contraol/maintain the channel.

I did get the opportunity to visit the chatroom while the forums were down, and although I think it's nice to have some place to go when rfd isn't up, the moderation there isn't as good as the forums.
There's certainly no guarantee that the conversation won't go off on a tangent into sexual discussions that are pretty graphic, and rude. When somebody mentioned something about the direction the conversation was going, she was told off in a sexually explicit and offensive way. That's not the kind of place that rfd would support, according to the rules of the forum.
Anyway, that's just my review of the EFnet channel. Enter at your own risk.

Oct 20th, 2004 02:30 PM #10This can happen in the RFD forums, the moderator comes along and warns/bans the user(s) and modify/remove the post or lock the thread.

At the moment there's only 20 people on the channel so it may not be worth it yet to have a full-time moderator, but if there are more people this could be enforced.

i think one of the problems is that when you're chatting on IRC, you tend not to think about your post before pressing enter, like you do when you're posting to the forum. so basically the conversation flows, and apparently, it doesn't take much to get completely off topic into something extremely offensive.
