Iron Filter: Replace or Rebed?
I have an iron filter that is around 25 years and isn't really doing much any more. I've been advised that it should be rebedded. I'm replacing my water softener which was installed at the same time and wondering if it should be replaced as well or not. The technology today doesn't look like its changed too much from the one that I have.
Also, there appear to be two types of iron filters, one that uses some chemical and one that is self cleaning. Is one better than the other?

Whats your iron content in your area? Some water treatment systems can handle light duty iron removal - there may not be a need for a dedicated iron filter.

I'm on a well so the iron content is really high. Don't have any hard numbers but I think a dedicated system is needed.
