Ishmael...
Yeah, yeah! I know - it's rather futile to recommend books in this age of instant media...
But a couple of years ago I accidentally heard about the book, Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. So I bought it, and read it in a day - I couldn't put it down and it literally changed my thinking about everything. I am writing to you to give this book my highest recommendation. I suggest that if you still have any faint inkling of hope for the future of our world, that tomorrow you go out to your local library or bookstore and pick-up a copy of Ishmael and read it. It is not a religious book or a self-help book - but it is a life-changing book - seriously. The review quote on the cover from Jim Britell of "Whole Earth Review" reads: 'From now on I will divide the books I have read into two categories - the ones I read before Ishmael and those read after.' - I agree with this statement 100% - this book is mind altering. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Ishmael is a pretty darn good book! Read it, if you dare.
(Note: After chewing out Txiasaeia the other day for quoting an Amazon.com review, I chastisedly provide this link to the currently 713 user reviews of Ishmael at Amazon - I quote the # of reviews in the hope that it will impress you enough to not want to spoil the book for yourself by reading even one of them, before you read the real thing...)
