Jamaica - Couples , Secrets or Sandals

We are planning end April trip for my 50th bday just wife and I. We’ve done Riviera Maya a few times with our boys who are now in university. We want a relaxing trip with with a bit more luxury for once(I may be on wrong forum, lol).

Good food is aways a must. Direct flights from our city are just with sunwing so Couples and Secrets would be only option. If we connect with AC vacations then Sandals would be option but pricier ( maybe have to depart from further city).

Always wanted to do Jamaica but other options that would fit our criteria could be considered. Air Transat and Sunwing also go to Cancun from our airport.

Anyone who can share their experience with either resorts wouls be appreciated.

We stayed at Couples Swept Away in 2017

The beach there is amazing, best beach I’ve ever seen.

I would go back in a heart beat

Won’t fly with Air Transat or Sunwing
(Sooo many reasons why)

Which in this case is good... cause Sandals tops my list for AI vacations in the Caribbean
Even on islands that may not be on my go to list
(Jamaica is amazing... but not the island it was 20 years ago
Now you go and stay mostly at the resort for safety
If that is ok with you... look at Sandals they have 9 Resorts ...
best choices Negril or Ocho Rios)

Antigua is an AWESOME island. One of our faves.
Have not stayed at Sandals Antigua, but we did tour it.
It’s a beautiful resort.
We also have friends who have stayed there and raved about it.

Antigua is a very safe island... so staying at an AI is not a must

But we would stay there if we were looking for a romantic lux vacation.

Since we are looking at connecting flights right now I am looking at other islands. (St Lucia). Will have a look at Antigua as well. Anyone stay at Excellence resorts? New resort opened lately in Oyster Bay but seems to have teething pains.

St Lucia is a gorgeous island... different geography so more rustic / tropical
(Mountaineous, Volcanic, Rain Forest)
They have 3 Sandals
Have only ever seen La Toc

Like many other high end resorts on the island it’s perched on a hilltop / cliff overlooking the ocean
This is both it’s PRO and CON
Spectacular views
But one is constantly going up and down the hillside to and from the beach
So can mean a lot of walking / steps to get to your room

Have not seen the other 2 Sandals in St Lucia
But I think they are flatter being further north

The biggest difference is that St Lucia is a lot quieter than Antigua
This is mostly because of the geography
Less people etc

I think that St Lucia is ideal for an AI... cause it is suited to R&R
Beach & Water
Ya just want to lay around
Enjoy the good weather
And breathe in the vibe
St Lucia is sort of like what you conger up in your mind’s eye when you think
Exotic Tropical Island

Sandals Antigua is one of my favorite Sandals Properties and have been to a good number of them. The General Manager (Mr. G) is the best and you see him all around the property doing everything. He really expects a high standard from his staff and leads by example. The Sand is white, the water is calm and green and best of all - the resort is only a short 15-20 minute drive from the airport.
