I looked into it and the ones at Tiger Direct are "bulk packaging" and they seem to have a very high rate of failure.

What do you mean? This is designed for phones but can be used with PCs (like skype) and I'm sure it can be used for gaming as well. You will only get sound out of the one ear, though.

Normally you use the TV's speakers(or your stereo) to output the game sounds and use a bluetooth headset for chatting with other players.
What I want is to have late night game so I would need to use headphones for game sounds but need to find a way to chat as well.
