I was listening to her on 97.3 EZ Rock this morning.
When she suddenly started using some kind of analogy comparing baby milk with marijuana, I completely lost faith in what she had to say.

Jenna McCarthy on BT: Childrens Vaccines cause Autism
Did anyone watch BT this morning? They had Jenna McCarthy on talking about her books and her son, etc, and she was railing against the CDC for pushing vaccines for children, saying that small childrens bodies can't handle all the toxins from them all at once, and when she "cleared" the toxins from her sons body, he lost his autism diagnosis. She was also saying that while she's not a doctor, she has a PhD from reading google diagnosis's.
It kind of sounded like a bunch of new-age holistic junk, and she was going on about needing to give your kids vitamins and keep them clear of toxins. While I can't imagine giving your kids vitamins and keeping them healthy/limiting the amount of toxins could be bad, I also don't think she has any idea of how vaccines work, if she's calling them toxins and saying she cleared them from her son's body in 6 months. Anyone else have any ideas on this?

Hello???? It's Jenny McCarthy we're talking about, not a qualified medical professional. A woman who's claim to fame is.....wait there is no claim to fame. (hehe hubby reminded me what it was...lol....farting in an elevator for a Candies commercial)
A grain of salt is all her comments are worth.

Toxins are a GOOD thing. If your kids are exposed to toxins - small amounts - they build this thing called an immune system. As a result they don't get sick.
There was a report a while ago that said that there's almost no incidence of children in the third world having asthma or allergies - scientists chalk this up to their exposure to dirt, bacteria, and allergens which allow their systems to build up immunity.
I'm not in support of pumping arsenic into kids arms, but if you look at the benefits of vaccines versus the downsides, her argument is ridiculous. Would you rather have hundreds of parents crying fowl over their autistic children getting autism from vaccines - assuming the link is truly causitive - or would you have thousands (or millions) crying over their dead children's bodies when they contract an incurable disease that could have been treated with a simple vaccine.
It's a game of numbers - and I'd rather bet on the side of percentages._______________

That was my point. I'm certain that in some isolated cases, vaccines can cause problems, maybe making some existing conditions worse, etc. Most medicine has this effect on a small percentage of the population. But if the choice is your kid crying and maybe getting a little post-vaccine cold, or some of the diseases the vaccines protect against, I can't see why anyone wouldn't do it. Its irresponsible.
And yeah, in small doses toxins are good. Its the same with diet and most other things. Everything in moderation. When she said she had a PhD in google I almost choked.

In addition to taking your vitamins, don't forget to train and say your prayers

Risk vs reward. She does have a point however.
I think a good number of parents would be willing to risk a child not having protection against some diseases until they are older.
Anyone who has had a booster shot knows how bad you feel for a few days afterward. At the critical juncture of an infant, subjecting them to an initial shot (which is harder on the body than a booster) may actually be stunting the natural progression of human development.
I can totally understand delaying the first of the more dangerous vaccinations (like the ones that can cause brain swelling) until just before puberty. The vaccination will still be effective at conveying its properties upon the next generation when they become adults.
So as long as you can survive to puberty naturally, its all good.
And if you don't - Some would say thats just the way it was meant to be.
It is however infinitely more socially responsible to have the shots early in life to prevent disease transmission to neighbors. It is quite arrogant and irresponsible to others to not take the shots early in life. Just like its arrogant and irresponsible for anyone to not wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle.Last edited by ZenOps; Mar 14th, 2008 at 09:18 AM.

She's also saying that the Thimerosol in vaccines is bad for you...it might be, but hasn't been in use in decades.
You can take all the vitamins and minerals you please, but your body will simply excrete any excess so massive doses will not help and could possibly hurt.
Another hollywood babboon who thinks what she says is important.
I'd like to smack anyone who risks their childs health because of anything this bimbo says. I suppose it's better to let them risk polio than to almost guarantee the child won't get it.
