Join Costco membership and receive $25 GC - scan now available
Just received the coupon in my mail, just like in the past, join a gold membership, reg. at $55 and receive a $25GC, so works out to be only $30 for one year membership.
Note: for new members only, also doesn't mention reproduction (photocopy) of coupon not allowed.
I'll post the scan later, or if someone has time, by all means..
EDIT: Sorry about long wait, just got back home...
Here's the coupon scan

$55 membership to pay higher prices, stand in line for 20 minutes every time you check out, and get harrassed by receipt nazis at the exits?
Absolute rip.

Correct!. Costco is a like a Zoo. It's a rip. You have to pay for
membership and wait in line to pay. Not many people realize this.

the "cash only" policy (except for the costco AMEX card) only makes the cost of doing business there even higher ... and no extended warranty by using your CC

Can it be combined with the AMEX coupon (10$) ?

Costco AMEX only? They don't take regular AMEX or the Airmiles AMEX?

From what I've heard on this forum, costco's return policy is so good you don't need an extended warranty that much.

#define BX_(x) ((x) - (((x)>>1)&0x77777777) - (((x)>>2)&0x33333333) - (((x)>>3)&0x11111111))
...really weird C code to count the number of bits in a word

Everytime they come up with a deal like this I actually get tempted, but so far have resisted.
I don't really get the appeal of Costco since there is limited brand selection, you usually have to buy way too much of an item, and if you wait for sales elsewhere and check flyers/RFD, you can almost always beat their prices. As others mentioned, the lines, limited payment options and the receipt checkers are additional downsides.
On the plus side...love them freebie samples.
Bottom line...it's against my religion to pay to shop.....IOW: I refuse to join a store that would have me as a member.

Would rather have and extended warranty and % rebate as cashback from using my CC.

Costco is good if there is something you really need there. Whenever I buy a membership, I save the cost of it on my first purchase (e.g., air conditioner).
Then I'll go a few more times when I feel like buying a bunch of something I actually use, and save a few more dollars.
People may moan about the lineups, but they always look longer than they actually are.
I've never been at a department store or grocery store where they have a person timing and measuring each line and open up more registers when the lineups get too long or take too long. They do this at Costco even the few times I go there I hate arriving at the lineup but I like that it never takes too long going through.

but just think about the rewards, I already took few of my friends to costco, thats the reward for having membership, and although I don't buy any electronics from them, they have very good prices on food related stuff, and considering I live in a familly of four its a good thing, ya $55 is bit much, but it saves me lot of time and I can always borrow camera when I go for once a year trip....
