Join Extreme Fitness - $2 a week for first 8 weeks
So I was riding my bike home from work the other day and I passed extreme fitness, the north york location, on yonge street just north of sheppard and notices a giant $2/week sign in the window. Thinking this might be a gimmic I called them and the only catch is that the deal is based on 2 months (8 weeks). So he said you can pay the $16, have a 2 months membership then quit if you want.
Here is the link to the deal
http://www.extremefitness.info/northyorkAS.aspx
I know it says North York membership offer but if you look at the other locations across the top of the page it is offered at others aswell.
According to this site locations include:
North York
Pickering
Thornhill
Whitby
I am actually going to visit the North York location tonight for a small tour and I will be signing up if there is no other catches to the deal. I will update if anything changes.
[Edit] So I went for my visit and got signed up, the deal is legit. You have to pay $16 up front for a 2 month membership, after that it will go to regular price. The only thing about cancelling is you have to do it 14 days in advance, so just make sure if you go for it to cancel 14 days before the end of your 2 month $16 membership, otherwise you are paying for an extra month.
Really nice facilities by the way at the North York location, I would assume it to be just as nice at other locations.Last edited by jljdaigl; Jul 25th, 2006 at 05:11 PM.

probably for a limited time like 3-6 months then you have to pay full price of around $40-$60 a month

Extreme Fitness is a scam!
Have you been to extreme fitness to get a membership? I have when they had the $3/month for 2 months only promo. I called and was given a number (only the first 250 callers get the deal supposedly). I booked an appointment and was made to wait 1/2 hour since the guy completely forgot about me. Then he handed me off to another sales rep. who brought me in and asked what i was interested in. I said my number is XXX and I want the $3/month for 2 months. He said that offer expired. I said I was given a number when I called yesterday. He said "So your not interested in any other offers we have." I said "Well that offer is the best one." He said "Sorry, can't help you. Bye." and proceeded to kick me out. Went home and checked their site for the offer expirey, and it was still going on.
Will never join extreme fitness even if THEY paid ME. Buncha commission hungry *******.
To note though, their facilities are good and some hotties work out there.
BTW: This was the Young/Hwy 7 location.Last edited by 911TwinTurbo; Jul 25th, 2006 at 12:13 PM.

I'll be interested in seeing what jljdaigl says when he visits the Extreme Fitness. I had a similar experience with the $3 for first two months deal, actually went to the same Yonge and Sheppard location.
NO DEAL, it was just to get you in there and pay $3 for two months then like $90 for each of the other 10 months of a 12 month contract.
Fitness facilities couldn't run if they had a bunch of us crowding the already tight facilities for two months and hitting the road thereafter.
But now...it's $2 for first two months of 12 month contract

Extreme Fitness
I actually won a free 1 year membership to Extreme Fitness in Pickering last year. I entered my name into one of those ballot boxes they had in Denny's, and they called me up a month later. There was no catch, and I was free to end my membership without penalty, however I had to give them my bank account number.
About a week before my free year expired, I came into the office to cancel my membership, and I was told that since I hadn't done it 2 weeks in advance, I would have to pay at least 1 month's membership, which was something like $55 or so. When they were cancelling my account, the sales rep "conveniently" had some computer problems, and had to do the cancellation on paper. The next month, I was surprised to find that I was still being charged the monthly fee, which was taken directly from my account. I went to the manager and complained, and got my money back.
Although this deal may be legit, make sure you have your bases covered. Make sure to cancel your membership in advance so you don't get charged the monthly rate, and make sure that they handled the cancellation correctly.

Migger's warnign about cancelling in advance is definitely good advice... I really can't believe gyms don't get closed down for all the underhanded gouging they do (when I signed up for my membership at a different gym, they even made me pay first before even seeing the contract, which seemed incredibly illegal to me)
I have a friend who signed up with Extreme under similar circumstances to this deal and it turned out "2 month's for $5/month" actually meant "first and last month of a 12 month contract for $5 each, with the 10 other months at $65/month"... Even when he spotted that in the contract, the sales person said "oh, just ignore that. It's $5/month for 2 months, don't worry". And my friend fell for it.
This type of Extreme deal is very very common. I'd very very careful and not trust a word that the salesperson says. Just go by the contract and read very carefully.
Good luck!_______________

My house always gets bombardered with their stupid flyers.(atleast once a week) Like this one 2$ a week or the 5$ a month Free summer or free for 3months. They always have some catch and some extreamly eye catching prices but theres always fine print. Its just a fishing for new members ploy to get you into the gym and talk you into the rest of the membership after they WOW u with the gym and their fitness knowledge. No gym is giving away a membership they're all fairly expensive so ya ur more then likely pulled into a whole year membership even if they claim its a 8week min. (more so u can ONLY get the deal for 8weeks min then u must buy the rest of your membership at the regular inflated price)

BEWARE of the cancellation policy and the contract you are signing when there. READ every word.
Nothing's free and this is a lure to a trap. A friend experienced it first hand.

Steer clear of Extreme fitness...bunch of scam artists. Don't get me wrong, the facilities are nice, but try to cancel and get ready for headache after headache!
My girlfriend and I just cancelled last month and we ended up paying for this month because the "customer service" (use that term loosely) manager didn't bother to call back before we were into our 2 week cancellation window, this after leaving him no less than 10 messages to call me!
I guess it's the same as anything else, buyer beware.

Went to my meeting
So I went for my tour at the Yonge and Sheppard Location, really nice facilities, lots of equipment etc...I read and re-read the piece of paper they had me sign and here is what the deal is (I will also update first post).
You can sign up for $2 a week for the first 2 months, $16.
After that you go regular price, i think it was like 96 bucks or something like that for me :S
To avoid the regular price, all you have to do is go in an cancel 14 days before the end of your $16 for 2 months deal. So this deal sucks if you forget to cancel, but otherwise you get a 2 month membership to a nice gym for $16.
