Judge Eyes: Yakuza Dev’s Next Game

https://gamerant.com/judge-eyes-tokyo-game-show/

A detective game that supposedly takes place within the Yakuza universe. I'm excited about it! And it's already announced to have an English release too.

Played the Chinese subtitled demo. They're using Kamurocho map again. Gameplay mechanics is very different. Supposedly, you'll be able to control a drone but the demo didn't show much aside from the fact that it's there. You can tail your suspects and hide if your suspects look back. Kimura Takuya is extremely popular even in the Chinese speaking regions so I wouldn't be surprised if this game sells like crazy.

I am all for more parallel narratives in the Yakuza world, especially if they introduce new mechanics.

I want to see either a bigger world or maybe a denser Kamurocho (more meaningful shops, indoor areas, interactive places, minigames).

More spinoffs like Fists of the North Star would be fun too.

I'm sure some of you are aware of this news already. In the past, I've always gotten the Chinese version of the Yakuza games. For this game, I initially decided wait to get the English version because they announced it way ahead of time. But now that they're deciding to remove that character, I went back to order the Chinese version again. I tried to find it in the HK PSN but they removed the sale of it. Had to order from Play-asia.

Chinese version is definitely the way to go considering the two languages/cultures generally tread closer, but the English versions of the mainline Yakuza series are surprisingly well translated. Better grab this one while you can. No telling what's happening now that the dude got busted. I'd imagine reshooting his entire scenes are going to be difficult, and worse comes to worst, this has the making of a collector's game in it.

Interested in checking this out whenever it releases in North America. How does this compare to Yakuza 0 in terms of side content? The substories and mini games were my favorite part of that game.

Also that story about removing a character over an actor being involved in a drug bust is maybe the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. Are they really surprised an entertainer does drugs or is there some context I'm missing? That sounds ridiculous

It's Japan. They have a very...different relationship with drugs than most of the planet (https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/japan- ... -in-world/). Also, to make a dark joke, erasing embarrassing parts of history is par for course in Japan. Expect delays as they are replacing Taki's character and voice actor (SEGA confirms Taki's removal from Judge Eyes Western release). This isn't the first time they've done this: Miaryama was dropped from Yakuza 4 after cocaine use allegations.

Japanese culture is weird. That is peculiar that an actor would be removed over real life drug use. Yakuza games have several female Japanese porn actresses make cameos
as escorts, valets, do gravure idol videos that are unlockable in the games and even act as a convenience store clerk but a male
actor is caught using cocaine and every trace of the actor is banned and removed from the game.

Porn actresses that Sega has hired to do cameos or make appearances in Yakuza games:
Ai Uehara in Yakuza 0
Anri Okita in Yakuza 6
some in Yakuza Kiwami, 4, and 5 too.

As I said, Japan has a very, very unique take on vices. Drink until you pass out on a park bench or make an ass out of your self at a company event? No problem. Real life adult entertainment stars in pop culture? You betcha'. Smoke hundreds of cigarettes a month? It's just what men do. Touch an illicit substance? You are the devil incarnate.

The first two hours of the game are really slow. It starts with one of those Assassin's Creed follow and hide sequences.
There are maybe only 4 brief fights with weak enemies in the first two hours of the game which is pretty much just setting up the story.

The English voice acting is pretty good. I prefer having English voice acting over the combo of English subtitles and Japanese voice acting that most of the Yakuza games use.
Japanese voice acting tends to be way too melodramatic.

Bought it early from an independent store.

Having a hard time deciding over buying this or Samurai Shodown. I chose Samurai Shodown. Then I checked youtube and found out the Hong Kong version of Judge Eyes is now repackaged in a special price edition for $42. Think I'll go for that in a couple of weeks.
