I had to set my hotmail to exclusive just cause the amt of junk mail was overwhelming...never bought anything off it (and from what I have read i think the response and purchase rate is less than 1% :? ...)

Ok, I'm just getting sick of this. For the past month i've been trying to cut down on the # of junk messages I get in my hotmail. I go into them and remove myself from the mailing list,,, thats on the ones that have the option which is maybe only half
.
Dosen't seem to be working.
In a day I get at least 10 junk emails despite my best efforts. My junk mail filter is on "enhanced" but I'm about ready to go to set it so only people in my address book can email me.
How many junk emails do you get? Any other rants?
This crap can't be working,,anybody actually bought something because of one of these email "ads"???

Alot of times those "remove me from the mailing list" options just gets you added to a "working email address" list, which they can then use for other stuff, or sell for more money...

sigh. I wish I only had ten junks a day. I get nearly 100 pcs of junk a day. That's not including my hotmail. combine the two and I'm nearly at 200.

Jun 13th, 2003 03:22 PM #6Yeap, this is true. You've got also a new option with hotmail that help you eliminate spam. Check the option of not displaying the image directly, since sometime the spammer will know he's got a good "spammable" email adress just by some link in the pictures...Alot of times those "remove me from the mailing list" options just gets you added to a "working email address" list, which they can then use for other stuff, or sell for more money..._______________

a great service you can use is www.spamgourmet.com, you create a username, which then forwards mail to your real account, but you can set a limit of how many mails certain companies send to you
ie: lets say I signed up for something at www.adsfadsf.com and they wanted my email address but I dont want them to send me more than 5 emails. I would tell them that my email address is something like asdfasdf.5.anounymouse@spamgourmet.com so after 5 emails have been sent to that address, it will stop working..

I run my own mail server (Postfix) on Linux. With it's junk mail filtering enabled, as well asSpamAssassin, and Procmail, only about 5 spams a day come through. It used to be in around 50. I am quite pleased with the setup.

i got fed up w/ spam so i set up my own mail server and now when i fill out anything online i use the url as the account name. that way atleast i know where its coming from, so far nothing after 3 months heh.
also for the spam i do get now i get it sorted as i download it with this program: http://popfile.sourceforge.net/
very handy, and it learns quickly what spam is, also i just send spam into another dir in outlook so i can see if something important slips through, hasn't yet. usually spam sneeks through but thats quickly delt with.

Mailwasher Pro (with a set of filters available from the Firetrust website) finally tamed the spam beast for my ISP and Hotmail accounts.
