What would a 35 year old rider who hasn't ridden in 10 years pay for insurance on a liter bike in the GTA these days? I've always wanted a Ducati.
I would not recommend a liter bike as a first bike for anyone unless it was a 1980's one which are pretty slow compared to 600cc ones today. You have no room for error at all on a 1000cc. One flick of the throttle while reaching for the front brake could send you flying. Even 600cc bikes aren't very forgiving these days.

Bit dramatic, don't you think? My 2001 929 had about 125 hp and there was no drama. It had to be turning about 5000 rpm before the real torque developed. Dunno what kind of power the current ones are making, but they can't be death machines or it would be lawsuit city for Honda. I don't think it's bad advice to start on a 600 though.

or he's looking for additional tickets to fight.
How often do people see a biker get pulled over though?

Congrats vaportech. Do you ride when it's 40deg+ humidex out? With full gear? In stop-in-go rush hour traffic? Insanity ...
I'm looking to getting a 250R next year .... =) Been saying this every year .. lol

I bought the CBR250R and will be picking it up on Friday!
Gonna start small and move my way up to a 600 then 1000.
Excited

Lol you're one of those idiots that dont know how to actually ride a bike properly, have huge chicken strips on your wheels and end up getting killed. Super good idea to start out on a Litre+ bike. Moron.

I agree with the others.. get a 250 or a non-supersport bike in the 600cc range and learn to ride and ride properly. Any fool can hop on a litre bike and ride it down a straight road or bang a wheelie and have the front wheel slam back down to the asphalt. The trick is in riding it properly through entrances and exits from corners, double apex turns, s-turns. Or being able to make an emergency stop while leaning through a turn without dumping the bike.
You can easily learn the craft on a smaller bike while having a ton of fun doing it. Try driving at 1kph or less while keeping both feet on the pegs.
It's all in what you want to accomplish by getting a bike. If you want it for the thrill of the ride, you can get that from just about any bike. If you want it to look badass in front of the ladies and make your penis look bigger, then get a litre bike and be a squid. But you won't look so cool and your penis will look a lot smaller when half of it is covered in road rash.
PS. No, I'm not saying all litre bike riders are squids or don't know how to ride.
Edit: I got caught up in the moment and forgot that the OP actually got a 250.. so this was in response to the ones saying they should get a bigger bike for a first bike.

Litre bikes are scary. Not only Hayabusa / ZX-14 / R1. But also the Ducati 999/1098 and Hypermotard.
