Keep birds off pergola/furniture

I have a pergola with patio furniture under it and birds (mostly morning doves) are constanty hanging out on it and pooping all over the patio and furniture covers. Does anyone have any suggestions for a proven deterrent? Not interested in anything temporary that requires frequent application or those motion sensing sprinklers. I've seen that refective tape and a bobblehead owl in Lee Valley. Any experiences with the tape? The owl might be a bit too much :)

I've seen bird spikes before, but they are very expensive... unless you can suggest somewhere to get them cheaper than other places. I have a pergola with beams going lengthwise and across on the roof, so there would be a lot of length required to cover it all with spikes.

Thanks, but even 50 feet would only cover half of the pergola roof. Too expensive for this forum :)

I've used carpet tack strips (Rona or Home Depot)
They can be stained to match the wood if you want and are very inexpensive.
Downside -
they will decay over 2-3 years and have to be replaced
the spikes aren't as big as I'd like (but they do work)
wear good heavy gloves when installing and replacing

Great idea, I'll have to look into that. Thanks

carpet spikes are a good idea, however spray them with some oil or coat with grease to prevent rust stains on the the pergola or furniture.

You can also buy a box of some stainless steel nails and just clip the head
once you've nailed them in.

This would be a little more permanent and cost considerably less.
