Keeping a wild rat as a pet?

Can you tame them?

If I captured a few instead of killing them. Will they survive inside a cage and calm down?

Your dog might consider them to be prey.

No you can't so please do not try. They are wild animals and not the same as a fancy rat.

Rats as a species are super intellegent and affectionate.
I wouldn't keep a wild one, as you have no idea about what parasites or diseases the thing is carrying.

I've had a few pet rats, and they were all amazing! Very trainable and definitely great pets!

Of course the other posters are correct, but my first thought, george, was your dog. I remember being in a big box pet store a few years ago and a woman came in carrying her purse-sized, hairless pup - she wanted to buy her dog a toy.

Every single dog in the store was surrounding her since they considered her dog prey. It was so bad that a store clerk had to tell her that she should come back to the store without her dog and that she should be looking for toys in the cat department.

Our dog was not with me, thankfully.

What's a cheap humane way to kill them?

I made DIY glue traps using corn syrup bought in bulk.. It's kind of gruesome :|

They're wild. Be careful when feeding them.
Then put them on a leash and take them out for a walk :p
