I find it odd that he sometimes mis-pronounces words. If he knew the name of something, why would he mis-pronounce it? Seems fishy to me; I've always thought these things are somewhat rigged.

I wouldn't consider it too odd... A lot of his trivia knowledge comes from reading and writing/editing trivia questions (as opposed to verbally discussing such a wide variety of topics in detail), where pronunciation is a bit of an afterthought.

LOLOLOLOL rigged... thats good.. o man... i got a good laugh out of that one! how the hell can they rig a gameshow? what would the contestants gain from being on a rigged gameshow? obviously if its rigged they arent winning any real money...
on pronounciation... how many different ways r there to pronounce words.. and sometimes you cant tell how to pronounce words unless someone teaches you and as the guy above me said.. alot of knowledge comes from reading and writing and editing those questions.......

Speaking from personal experience, maybe he's an autistic savant. I semi-jest... I still haven't seen an ep of Jeopardy! with this guy, I've got to view one somehow :P

I think Alex has far too much class for them to rig this. Of course this can go far above him but I really doubt it. This isn't the 50's with the corrupted gameshows.

The guy is a Mormon from somewhere in Utah, he probably spent all of his time in the library reading books. It is often hard to derive the pronunciation of words from a book. It is not like he is this James Bond like, suave figure who has seen every place in the world or been exposed to every language. He is a geek. That may explain that question.
I have been watching his entire run and I cannot put my finger on how he is accomplishing this feat. He is not only winning, but rather annihilating the opposition. He rarely (if ever it seems) finishes double jeopardy with less than double the amount of his nearest rival, so there is never a question who will win, but rather how much money Ken will win.
He is obviously super intelligent, but it seems that he has skill at this game as well. For easy questions, ones that everyone knows, he is almost always first to ring in, almost as if he has it down pat as to the exact instant in which to ring in, beating out his competitors by a fraction of a second. He acts calm and relaxed, and almost seems to operate like a computer, accessing the data banks in his mind (no Celeron here, this guy is without a doubt a Pentium 4 with HT. He seems to say the answer before Alex is even done calling out his name).
These shows were all taped in March so I am sure his run is long over, but supposedly he is being tight lipped about it all, I suppose waitng for the day when his upset airs (although at the rate this dude is going, I think Trebek will be gone long before he is).
And his success seems to come by never betting a bundle on Daily Doubles or in Final Jeopardy, he seems content at just finishing with an even number (if he has 26,400 he will bet 3,600 to finish with an even 30,000). Never too greedy, but I suppose he sees it as a financial plan. Not a bad job hey.......30-40 thousand a day.

Didn't they just double the money values a year ago or something? He should be able to top the single day record. But I guess it's pretty risky to bet all your money in Final Jeopardy.

Hahah, I was just joking. I think Jeopardy is legit, and I don't think Trebeck could pull off something like that anyways. Plus, we know how upstanding those damn Canadians are, eh. But having a big winner like this will draw in more of an audience, increaing their ratings. More advertising revenue. Plus, if he isn't winning, there will be someone else they will be giving their money to.
Pronunciation? There are lots of words that are hard to pronouce. Intonation is important too. A lot of book-smart people have this problem. But because their knowledge is so extensive, they are not going to be able to use all their knowledge in everyday conversations. Wonder if Trebeck would ever go in there and correct a contestant's pronunciation? You know he probably previews all the questions the day before so that he pronounces the words properly. It would be funny if one of the contestants said, "Alex, I believe you meant to say ..., and the question is ...".
Makes you appreciate those spelling bee contestants, that have to know spelling, pronunciation, definition and word origin.

OMG!!! What an idiot!!! Now why didn't he wager one more dollar like Alex said?? Ok so he's tied the all-time single day total of $52000. I guess he just wants to tie it for now and just break it later. Amazing...
Just a little background of Ken Jennings for those of you that don't know. Steve Beverly who runs http://www.tvgameshows.net is an expert on gameshows. The other day he was on the radio and he focused a lot on Ken Jennings. I can't recall all the information but what I do recall is that he has many many years of trivia experience. During his college years Ken was heavily into the trival bowls where he would enter like 10 tournaments a year. He knows exactly when to buzz in and how fast he should run the board.
Just amazing this man, I have to applaud him.
