Keurig Kold - Complete Flop

As noted here: http://bigstory.ap.org/article/b2f3e5a7 ... -lose-jobs
The company said Tuesday it's discontinuing the first generation of Kold and offering customers refunds for the full purchase price. The home soda-making machine debuted last fall to questions about its affordability for the average consumer. The suggested retail price of the bulky countertop units was $369.99, with each soda pod costing more than a dollar — significantly more expensive than buying and storing cans of soda in your fridge.

I didn't realize it was still in production. I'm surprised it took them this long to pull the plug.

What did they expect from a $380 machine that was the size of a Mini Cooper!

Don't forget - it was also loud, took forever to cool down, and was significantly more cumbersome than simply opening up a can of soda. And of course, terrible for the environment.

It's awfully nice of them to refund the 6 idiots who bought one.

We view our initial KOLDTM system launch as a pioneering innovation. We learned from consumer feedback that while the KOLDTM system delivered great tasting cold beverages, our initial execution of KOLDTM did not fully deliver on their expectations, particularly around size, speed, and value. Because of this, we are discontinuing the first generation of our Keurig KOLDTM system. While we work to incorporate our learnings into future beverage systems, we are offering a refund to consumers who purchased a KOLD system.

I'm surprised it actually made it from concept to production. I'm not a huge fan of the pod-based coffee machines but at least they make some sense in terms of convenience vs cost.

With a Sodastream type machine it's significantly cheaper and you're free to make whatever you want with it. The Kold wasn't convenient or cost effective in any way.

Obviously. They are not giving away free machines.

You're making an assumption. This machine will no longer have syrup produced for it.

Ya true. Probably too expensive to ship back anyways.
