It bothers me that Kijiji is trying to get payment for the classified ads now. Lately even if you post a free ad they send you an email asking to PAY to bump it up once it falls off the first few pages. Totally unacceptable. What, Ebay doesn't make enough money for them anymore?
Sigh...

EBay is a ***** compagny. Sadly, It is the online auctioner that most people know/use in NA.

thats what you call good business sense. they are still providing a FREE service while offering premium services (bump up/static front page) for a cost. Why is that bothering you?? You should open up a business and provide your services totally free.. i'm sure it will last a long time.

IMO
Ebay is their premium pay system. buy, pay seller, sell, pay fees, etc. Not to mention the paypal rates (which is also money to them, same company).
Kijiji previously was totally 100% free, competition for Craiglist, etc. Now in the past year or so they've added the premium services and nag you to pay. Overall the site hasn't improved, it's full of spammers, and they want you to pay to post.
I'm saying they are greedy, pay Ebay, pay PayPal, and now pay Kijiji.. too much._______________

If you trust them to actually post your top ads, it's a good deal.
Take a look through the forums there, and you'll see plenty of people irritated their top ads never get posted, or pulled. Kijiji's support time is measured in days (and weeks), so getting any help from them can be a frustrating process.

Don't support Kijiji, it takes away from Craigslist (which is awesome and free and has been forever)... If they become the default classified ads site, just like eBay is the default auction site (Kijiji is owned by eBay by the way) they can charge whatever they please and there will be no free classifieds like Craigslist any more (since everyone is selling and trading on Kijiji instead)...
Think about it, if you want to sell your stuff in an auction, the only real option is eBay, isn't it? It will be a sad day when classified ads are the same way, when the only real option is Kijiji..

It is AMAZING business sense, I agree. It pulls in the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Sure. That's great. For THEM.
What is sad is that they are making a ton of money while trying to kill off competition, mainly Craigslist. Craigslist is totally free (except car ads) and it has been around forever. It would be sad to see that the only option is Kijiji and you have to pay just to list your item (eventually they could rid of the free postings altogether, or you'd have to pay to have your ad in a spot that people can actually see it)
Craigslist doesn't have premium services and that is the BEAUTY of it. With paid premium spots, all you see is the same few sellers with a bunch of stuff to sell and money to buy top positions. It just becomes paid ads on the site, instead of real classified ads. Craigslist on the other hand has no such thing, so the most recent poster is on top and that's how it should be!

If Craigslist is so great and awesome, then use it, and don't use Kijiji. Who cares? No one is stopping you. Why bother even posting this?
Frankly IMO CL sucks arse. The interface is horrible and hasn't been updated in th 15 years, and no one on the east cost uses it at all so your ad is just a big waste of time for me.
As far as the top post goes, no one reads them anyway, at least I know I don't. I tune out the top posts just like I tune out google ads and facebook ads and any other ads that my Firefox adblock extension doesn't zap from the start anyway.
I don't see what the huge deal is. Just DON'T READ IT.
EDIT: And for the people who say to use GraigsList to "support it" or it will go away, WTH are you talking about? Craig does not make any more or less money from Craigslist based on the number of posts. Like you are loving to point out the site is totally free, always has been, so there is no reason why it would or would not get shut down based on a decreasing post count. In actual fact, if less people used Craigslist it would cost less to operate anyway.Last edited by brunes; Oct 16th, 2008 at 04:48 PM.
