Should be H5 480CCA or H6 570CCA for best performance.
Costco does not have all the groups sizes, if you own a Hyundai which requires Group 121R you're out of luck so it might be the same with Group H5 or H6.
Also check the date code label on top of the battery, most stores don't rotate their stock, buy one that says 11/17 or 12/17 and don't bother with ones that have 6/17 or earlier or you will be buying a defective battery to start with.

Here you go,

This is a list I made a few years ago & it worked for my mk5 GTI & my co-Workers MK6 GTI. We both upgraded to H6 Batteries and they fit other then you may have to remove the felt blanket around it. Also since you own a GTI join Club Wolfsburge on FB, lots of us are in there & lots of info/group buys/track days - https://www.facebook.com/groups/GTAGTIs/

More or less Accurate depends on brands etc

H5:480 CCA
H6:570 CCA
H7:650 CCA
H8:720 CCA
H9:850 CCA

OEM VW Battery
Size: H5
CCA: 540

New Costco Battery
Size: H6
CCA: 730

My GTI's battery is now 6 years and 1 month old and starting to wimp out in the cold.

I tried to find a listing for the GTI in a Costco list I found by Googling it. It just lists H5 BCI Group Size with no Costco options. Will check the hard-copy book in a Costco store soon, but assume it will be the same. I don't want to undersize, but would gladly put in a monster CCA spec that physically fits/works. Thanks.

I also put an H6 Interstate battery in my 2012 Golf R, agree on that it will fit and you'll have to remove the felt sleeve that goes around the battery.

FYI - according to what I've read, the felt sleeve (or any sleeve around a battery) is used to shield the battery from extreme changes in temperature (in particular heat in the Summer). So, removing the sleeve and not replacing it with something similar may actually reduce the life span of your new battery.

Thanks sickcars, BOOOOrt and craftsman and EdT586.

I may go VW OEM for $138 or to an H6 from Costco (270552) for $119.99 - the one mentioned by sickcars, but not yet as the original still seems OK.

I would go with the costco one. Its cheaper & more powerful then the OEM.

Update. I just got back from Costco and they have 121R Batteries. It's Costco fitment code 30 and the cost is $99.99 with a $10 core. The books on the shelf are still not updated and claim that they don't sell the 121R but they do now. Manufacturing date on all of them was 11/17.

Late Edit: In case anyone wants the Costco item number, it is 1112805.

Good to know, when I went about two years ago to replace a friend's battery the Group 121R was not physically available.

Got a 28 24F from Costco at Biscayne Cr., Brampton - priced at CDN 119.99

Looks like they raised the prices now.

Last battery (a Toyota EverStart) lasted a good 8+ years until this year's cold winter got her - R.I.P.

lets see how this Kirkland one goes.

Nope pretty sure they do not install batteries. However its pretty easy to do yourself. If you are not sure google how to change a battery on your specific car as im sure you will find lots of info.

Problem with doing it yourself is your fingers will be frostbitten in 10 min. I'd suggest taking it to a heated underground parking somewhere and do it there.
