So it seems that Henckels is still selling items on sale on various websites for a limited time and have been collecting model numbers and pricing from the the recent Henckel sale and other various websites and for the past few days. I will post that up in another thread to share with all the Japanese Knife list that I've been collecting data on.

I recently found out that Miyabi has now released a new line of knives called the 5000MCD 67 Black - they are nothing short of gorgeous with a price tag to match. They have a HRC rating of 66 which is pretty damn high.

The selling pricing from the Henckels Canada SIte for this knife is $625 and was only able to find it in one other place called Williams who has this knife on sale for $499.99, so based on the OEM pricing it's 47% plus make sure to use the SAVE5 at checkout.
In the kitchen, Japanese chefs are just as demanding with functionality as they are with aesthetics. The MIYABI® 5000MCD 67 Black Collection offers the best of both worlds; featuring a Micro-Carbide MC66 powered steel core wrapped by 132 layers of steel honed to a Flower Damask pattern. The black ash wood handle features a striking mosaic pin and a steel end cap. Handcrafted in Seki, Japan.

Features & Benefits:
  • Traditional Japanese D-shape handle made of black ash wood, elegantly enhanced with a mosaic pin, red spacers and a metal end cap featuring the MIYABI logo
  • The hand polishing reveals a unique individual Flower Damascus design
  • Forged 133-layer construction - 132 layers of prestige stainless steel create a protective layer encapsulating the MC66 core
  • Resilient CRYODUR® hardened blade for stability and cutting edge retention, with hardness of 66 HRC
  • Traditional 3-step Honbazuke hand honed edge creates an ultra-sharp cutting edge of 9.5°- 12° angle (19°-24° total)

...Never mind. (Post deleted.) I'd linked to some knives that I found by searching "Miyabi Black" and didn't realize that what I found weren't in the Black line.

$249 for a 8" and 9.5" you can see there is a $30 difference on Kitchensmart.ca between sizes and more expensive than Williams.

Williams is cheaper and on sale

D'OH! Thanks. I was in a hurry but I really should have checked other sources, and when I do I always check Williams. Their sales are usually pretty good.

Only the Santoku and the Pairing are really sort of a hot deal, the rest are warm.

If you have the patience and access to the wear house sale, the prices there were amazing this time around! The lady in charge of Miyabi said she will bring more Birchwood and some Blacks for the Spring sale as well. This year they only had a few limited pieces.

Birchwood 8" Chef was just $200.
Birchwood 5" Pairing (fairly useless knife imo as very specialized but I digress) was just $140.

Bob Kramer Euroline Essential 8" Chef only $100 (original $285)
Bob Kramer Euroline Carbon 8" Chef only $150 (Original $450+)

And so on...

The downside to the wear house sale is of course you need to go there in person and selection is variable but generally decent as far as Miyabis concerned.

You get the picture.

Not sure which sale you're talking about but that knife was going for $187.50 when they had the 72hr 50% sale in August.
