LA Fitness at Don Mills
I wondering if anyone goes to the gym there and could give me some insight on the gym, such as prices, equipment, customer services, programs and most importantly how crowded the basketball court is, as this is one of the reason I want to sign up there. Thanks in advance.

Be very careful with any deals they offer. Do not sign, initial or pay for anything until you have the entire contract in front of you. At this location they have some electronic signature thing they will try to get you to sign before they even show you a printed contract.
Also watch out for the bait and switch at this location. Was thinking about signing up there a couple of months ago but had a bad experience with dishonest staff there so went elsewhere. Luckily I was fairly careful and wasn't out any money, but still--a headache and an annoyance which I would caution others to be mindful of before walking into LA Fitness on don mills.

Sometimes it seems like the only honest gyms are the ones run by municipal government, the YMCA, and martial arts dojos which provide free unlimmited access to a full gym if you are enrolled in one of their classes. Most dojos don't have a complete gym though, and I've never seen one with a pool.

There are many honest gyms around. But in my experience, the honest ones are generally somewhat more expensive; but they charge consistent pricing for all, and don't give you a high pressure sales pitch.
The gyms with the most complaints for shady sales and cancellation practices are often chains that offer lots of promotional deals, and try to get as many people in the door as possible. The ones with issues are generally fairly well known, and if you are very careful, you can still have an acceptable experience (but it is a hassle to have to deal with these ones).

You can do better
I am still a member because I live close by, but I have seen the club deteriorate over the last year. They have cut way back on the maintenance and as a result towels are left everywhere, water leaks in the shower area, cracked padding on the machines. The place is too hot in the summer as I think they are trying to save on AC as well. The manager spends his time on his cell phone and nobody in general seems to give a s**t about the club.

I've been there 3-4 times during the night (7-8pm), not crowded at all. I would say there was prob 3-4 ppl there.

In my opinion, for any gym, try to pay the entire year's fee in cash upfront. Never give them a CC.
I did that once and stated and also SIGNED that i didnt want to continue my membership after the year. The year ended and they still kept deducting monthly. I ended up going back a few more times to get it canceled.
but there are other years that i have paid upfront in cash. Sometimes i could use that membership a few months after the year...sooo...

I work near Birchmount and Eglinton and doesnt look remotely close to have any gym being built there for 2012.. I wont pay an "advance" fee for sure. Im definitely excited if they build a basketball court there.
