laptop cpu's and speed differences
i dont understand too well about intel laptop processors.
i have 2 laptops one is a intel pentium m 1.73gz
the second is a pentium 4 3.2 gz with h/t
what i need to know is ,how are these processors rated?which one is supposed to be faster?
where would these cpu's rate/compare speed wise with AMD cpu's
thanks for the input

the p4 would waste more energy, while the m will use less. The raw processing power i believe you could find out at tomshardware.com they have tables and charts. So just check urs out.

Super_Pi seems to be a popular utility to assess CPU speed if this is what you looking for. In general computer performance is not only rely on processor speed. Harddrive, ram, and display card are also very important.

while superpi is a popular tool, don't count on it to compare performance between different CPUs
also, a laptop with a 7200rpm will feel MUCH faster than other laptops (5400rpm is dog slow, though consumes less power)

Skip any Intel Ps. Go with Core Duo. Theres a HUGE difference in speed. A 1.6ghz core duo can out preformed a 2ghz Pentium cpu with Super Pi.

I like the efficiency of the P-M so would prefer to use that, personally. However, here's a useful article:

i believe that the pentium 4 one is a lot faster, and i can't believe they can put it into a notebook computer.

the p4 does get hot allright,my 3.2 seems to be a pretty good powerhouse too,if i turn the screen way down i can get 1.5 hrs out of the battery.so not so good for a portable, pretty heavy too with 17''
