It seems like every laptop these days has a glossy screen, and it doesn't serve a purpose for me. It's just an annoyance, so I'd like a laptop without it. Which ones are still made with matte (non-glossy) screens?
I'm looking for more general answers, but if it helps, I'm looking for 13-15", under $1000..

You can custom configure dell's to have matte screens. Same with some of the Lenovo's.

Generic laptops with matte screens
I also hate glossy screens, not to mention this obsession with 'wide screen'.
Anyways, you will find most 'home entertainment' laptops with a glossy screen. These make up the bulk of inventory at stores such as Futureshop and Bestbuy. Try looking for 'business class' models as they tend to still use the matte type. I did find some exceptions but Lenovo (some thinkpad series) and dell (latitude/vostro series) are some of the business lines.

If you shop at Future Shop and Best Buy then yes, all the garbage they sell is HP with glossy screens.
You should look into a Lenovo Thinkpad or Dell Vostro or Latitude. Those come standard with matte screens and on some you can't get a glossy screen even if you wanted one.
I LOATHE glossy screens. So what if it enhances contrast? You get massive reflections from EVERYWHERE and there's no privacy at all with a glossy screen._______________

It really shouldn't really be surprising that the wants/priorities of a power-user is very different from casual users.
Of the ~20 laptops I've bought for family and friends, almost all have preferred glossy screens -- and I show them both and give them the pros and cons each time._______________

I've had a matte for like 6 years and liked it. Now its time to upgrade, so I bought something from Futureshop, and of course, it's glossy. I despise it. Thus, its going back and I'm finding myself a non-glossy one.
Anyone know about this one? http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...on=&langid=EN#_______________
