If Reimer wants to win his spot back he needs to prove it vs the penguins, not the islanders.
The leafs were the better team in both of these games, allowing an avg 21 shots on goal and only allowing 1 PPG. That's phenomenally better compared to last year, and a reflection of a more defensive attitude that carlyle is pushing.
I predict a 3-2 OT win by the penguins, but I think if Reimer plays he'll stand on his head.
it's risky given your supposed number one starter's first game against the high powered Penguins AND their home opener, where you know they will want to impress their home fans. what if reimer falls on his head?

Honestly putting Reimer against the Pens on his first start is a bad move, that's just my opinion though.

Then he is in the exact same position as he was in before, as the number 2 guy going forward.
The game against the islanders should be a slam dunk. Take those 2 points with your best goalie.

Don't underestimate the Islanders!

I think it would be a good move. If Scrivens is pretty confident right now, I'd rather not risk seeing him rattled.
Reimer's is apparently already the weaker one right now, so putting him into a game where he will have to be amazing to win doesn't seem like a bad idea. If he gets lit up, oh well, but if he plays well it will give him a huge boost.

It's pretty much a do or die chance for him, if he does well he'll get more starts obviously, if he doesn't then Scrivens will be the main goalie this season unless he gets lit up repeatedly also lol.
By that time Luongo should be in Toronto, lol jk! (I actually want him in TO).

lol ... re: scrivens if you're worried about your "pretty confident" goalie being rattled, then maybe he isn't nhl caliber.
logically, he should give your team the best chance to gain some point(s) given his play thus far.
it's like the team is already conceding defeat if he doesn't start.

At least now the Leafs dumped the old guys and are playing the young guys, like we should have done when Burke first got here. It's almost a win-win situation. If they play well, then maybe there's some hope for the future. If they suck, then we get a high draft pick. We basically wasted the last couple of years with those two clowns Burke and Wilson.
My observations so far:
Watching this team is gonna be ugly this year. They may finally be listening to the coach and play more defensively, but it's gonna sacrifice whatever offense they had in previous seasons. That may get us a few more wins in the long run, but we're still far from being a contender.
I think we gave too many years to Lupul. After only one decent season, he gets a big contract. $5.25M a season is probably also a bit high, but like I said before, we probably need to overpay for guys to play in Toronto.
JVR is pretty horrible so far. But I guess we traded away old garbage and got some new garbage back. Philly likely wouldn't have gotten rid of him if they didn't think he's a bust.
Kadri is showing me something that I haven't seen before. He may stick with the big club this season. At least give him this season and figure out what you really have.
I don't mind them playing Scrivens so far. Never thought Reimer was going to be the answer like so many people here did.
Nice to see a hometown guy like Kostka getting a chance.

Would be the wrong move. Scrivens has given you 2 solid starts allowing just 3 goals how can you take him out.
In terms of Reimer doing well against Pittsburgh I wonder how many games did Crosby play last year against the Leafs who have done well against the Penguins recently anyway.

According to our Sportsnet.ca poll, 50% of Leafs fans think they should trade for Luongo. 50% said they shouldn't. (Margin of error is 50%) 6:23 PM - 17 Jan 13

Haha, the guy pushing Luongo is making comments about other goalies being rattled.

The Leafs have 5 games this week. They were always going to split those up somewhat.
There is no perfect science to this, but this is not an uncommon way of going about things.
You have back to back games. You have a game that you are unsure if you have a chance to win either way, and a game that you know you should be able to win. You have one goalie that you are not sure is ready, and one who is playing well. Some would consider it shrewd management to put the proven guy into the easier game to make sure you lock that one down, and roll the dice on the tougher game.
Realistically, neither Reimer or Scrivens have shown themselves to be significantly better than each other. Reimer probably has just as good of a chance of getting a W tomorrow. But if he really isn't ready, we can't afford to lose games against the Islanders.

Yeah I think Kostka has been solid all around, and Komisarek played a simple and physical game against Montreal.
JVR hasn't done squat yet but I don't think we've been missing Luke Schenn - getting beat with speed, caught out of position, and inability to win fights for such a big, strong guy. His hits were nice but Komisarek can do that.
