Leased Car, Can i install a remote starter?

Hi All

I have a leased Nissan Rouge and would like to install a remote starter. Since its a leased car im not sure whether im aloud to do that or not, or if there are any other extra fees when i will be returning it.

Anyone has any input on that?

I think you can install it but you have to remove it once your lease is over (unless you buy it at that point). But like yao416 said, wait for him to call the Nissan dealership for you first, then you can find out.

Have you checked the lease agreement to see if it's permitted? Why do you need a remote starter? I have a remote starter/alarm on a truck...primarily since it was typically parked outside in temps as cold as -30 to -40 deg C. Would I do it again? No.

You 'should' have no problem doing that. Over the last 10-12 yrs,we leased about 6 cars including my relatives and installed auto starter ranging from Honda, toyota and GM and non have any issues. It's a pretty popular item and unless you did it yourself and messed up the wiring ,otherwise there shouldn't be any issue!

Yes. When you turn in the car you may take it out or leave it in.

Will they be able to charge me extra for them to remove it?

Just wondering why you would mention it at all when you return it? It is a add on and usually makes the vehicle work better.

BTW when you speak to the Stealership, don't mention any specifics about yourself or the car. Just ask general questions incase they go ahead and make some notation on your account. If they say it is OK, then give them your info and get the persons name etc. and ask for an email to verify the conversation and the decision.

I would contact the lessor first especially because its an electrical add-on. (Don't contact the selling dealer as they are not the Lessor)
If they say its not a problem I would pay the little bit extra and have the Nissan dealer install it(thats if they'll even agree to install the aftermarket starter) Why? because if any electrical issues arise later down the road the un-authorized install 'can' become an excuse as to why other electrical components failed.
Then have it removed when you surrender the lease at lease end.
