Looks like Y540 comes with 1080p 60hz (non freesync / gsync) screen though.

Yikes. 60hz would be a deal breaker for me. After going to 144hz, I could never go back.
Wonder if they'll have a 9th Gen, 2060, 144hz version..?

There's a 144hz screen available as an upgrade, but it might not be g-sync since it's not mentioned. And the upgrade cost could be prohibitively expensive and narrows the price gap between the y540 and y740.

Ah, so I guess Y540 and Y740 will both be refreshed with 9th gen CPUs. A 9th gen CPU will very likely run hotter than the current 8750H, correct?

Going to call lenovo, if they give me a further discount ill probably stick with it. Have heard some people got an extra $150 off.

25% + 9% ebates + $150, cant really complain about that.

Thanks for noticing it was the Y540. Neat that it has a full num pad. Good catch.

Honestly we wont know how the processor performs until benchmarks are released and it's been fully tested. They may just been more strict with the binning allowing the more thermally efficient processors that can hit the higher clock rates be these processors. They may also have slightly improved the 14nm process technology or the processor will just draw more power and get hotter faster. I read thats been happening at the desktop level. Something about them stating they are 90W processors but in reality they're spec'd for 300W power draw or something and that keeps rising each generation.

If it is the Y540, 15" has a numpad and no useless macro keys which I would prefer. The new CPU models should also have the 2060s?
the keyboard on these Y740 is the only reason I haven't pulled the trigger already. style, type, macro keys etc

Right now they have more then 20 percent off the Y740 so not really needed. Next week the i7-9750 will be released so that might be why there's such a big discount.

What do you mean? 9th Gen isn't even out yet? Or are you going to just complain to them and get the 9th Gen version instead since it's out pretty soon?
