so these guys are being selective with who gets cashback...
I ordered it in Feb, prob much earlier than alot of people so maybe they implemented it after? At first I also didn't get my ebates and had to contact them, not sure if that made a difference.

So it looks like the i7-8750H is almost identical to the i7-9750H. Keep the 8750 models if you got them at a good price.

Got the 2nd Lenovo laptop (replacement) and tested it out.

- Thermals are definitely better, under load the CPU Package (avg) is about 9 deg C cooler and doesn't peak over 85 deg, whereas the old one will hit 97 deg C at the peaks
- GPU temps are about the same
- keyboard doesn't feel as nice and "clicky"
- left touchpad mouse button, you have to hit closer to the center of the button for it to register, i'm used to hitting the left edge with my thumb so its a bit annoying as it usually doesn't register
- a decent amount of light bleed on the new one..don't think it bothers me too much though as the screen is rarely on dark colors

Overall I have a few small gripes, but glad the thermals are better.

Damn... I thought the whole delay thing was for them to fix the light bleed issue.

9 deg C is a huge inconsistency. Now I am concerned with my machine that I am waiting 2 months for...

Haha I wish..I think it was cause of the shortage of CPU's.

I agree...about to test it some more right now. Both laptops sitting side by side, running fortnite on ultra for a game and see what temps I get. I should mention, both laptops are undervolted by -0.140.

edit: may have had some different throttlestop settings on yesterday or something...the difference seems to be closer to 5 deg C, so not as bad. Old one does have thermal throttling on 3 of the cores, new one has none and also seems a bit quieter when all fans are running..

Yep..some quick #s from the last test (fortnite ultra, 1 game about 10min on load)

Old comp:
CPU Package: 78 minimum, 96 maximum, 84 avg
GPU: 74 min, 77 max, 75 avg
Thermal throttling on 3 cores

New comp:
CPU Package: 76 min, 91 max, 80 avg
GPU: 77 min, 80 max, 78 avg
No thermal throttling

One thing I did notice, when EPP on Throttlestop was set to 0 the temps would peak much higher than when set to 128, which I think is default? Most guides say to set it to 0, so not sure. I'll end up keeping the new one as it doesn't seem to be throttling.

Do you mean the Y740 with a 1660ti or the new Y540?

Either way, if budget allows, I would go for a Y740 and 2060. 11% ebates is probably the highest its ever been.

Y740 with the 1660ti.
Y740 will have a new model with high cpu i7 9750h like Y540. But I am not sure if the Y740 comes with the graphics rtx 1660ti.
I Just play game in 1080p, so 1660ti graphic will be ok for me and the temperature is much lower.

Y740 does not come with 1660ti and only has i7 8750h
Y540 comes with 1660ti with option for 2060 and has i7 9750h

Hearing notes of a June y740 update release. Only 5G Lenovo news at the Computex show. I’ll wait to see the next gen as long as it’s next couple months

@JamesC336003 they’ve got the 9th gen released, but with the 1660 ti instead. I think I’ll wait for the 2060 version
