..
Moto X 2013 had thier weird/custom x8 CPU architecture, so no wonder why os updates to that particular model took longer. The later moto X versions changed to a standard arm CPU architecture

Stop spouting gibberish.
LoL ...wow a Moto fanboy you must be the first ?
They died for choosing the wrong OS platform just like Nokia's Symbian fiasco !
They sold 84M phones under Lenovo's leadership, which is not great in Lenovo's balance sheet for value versus return.

I haven't owned a Motorola phone in 8 years and have no loyalty to any specific manufacturer. I'm just pointing out facts to counter your BS.

From what I hear, some Android users that applied the half-baked StageFright "fix" are seeing that too. But at least they got half a fix in exchange.

But the premise and conclusion I was talking about was that there is no need for updates because there is no problems with existing software. That's a bad conclusion derived from a bad premise.

Motorola confirms that it will not commit to monthly security patches
Motorola says it is "more efficient" to bundle security updates into fewer releases.
So to recap: there's no promise of monthly security updates for the Moto Z or Moto G4.

For the future of security updates at the Lenovo-owned Motorola, we look to the 2015 Moto X, which has been receiving Android security updates about once a quarter instead of monthly. The Moto X spent the last few months on the "February" Android security patch and only this month was updated to "May." The Moto Z is stuck on the "May" security update as well, meaning that Motorola's brand new smartphone is missing two months of security patches.

What kind of software does Moto make? The only Motorola made software in my Moto X Play is the display app which wakes up the display when you move the phone. Nice feature, but a LED light would have done even better job and no software required.

In my personal opinion there are only 3 companies that innovate in Android software: Google, Samsung ( I don't like their innovations, but that's just me) and Xiaomi. What are the rest doing other than locking bootloaders and loading malware (sorry, "value added apps")? Just put good hardware together, stock Android and cheap price. That's the formula for success. Unless you are Xiaomi. Then you work hard and make great products which competitors bash but users love.

The more Lenovo takes over Motorola, the less I want to consider future Lenovorola phones. First misstep, abandoning regular software/security updates.

This is so sad. Motorola was on top of its game when it released the original Moto G, as well as built some of the best Android devices such as Moto X and Nexus 6.

Google shouldn't have sold it as they are now making their own Pixel brand hardware. Lenovo is just horrible.

"According to a report from Phandroid, Lenovo intends to let go of Motorola’s entire software and services division.

This is the same division that has been responsible for products like Moto Voice, Moto Display and Moto Assist."

'In the words of Phandroid, “the people responsible for those [servces] are gone, and will be replaced by Lenovo engineers.” Worse still, “people flying in from Lenovo’s headquarters in China will be filling a lot of those roles.” '
That means all Chinese people right?

The market for smartphones is quickly maturing and Motorola knows it. It's similar to 2006 when Intel launched the Core 2 Duo. It's now 10 years later and lots of C2D systems are still happily running with W7.

The last supercycle was 5.5" displays and Apple getting China Mobile customers. There's nothing in the near term that justifies a big headcount for Moto.

You've got ultra lean competitors like Xiaomi and big players like Huawei. Moto is simply a beachhead for U.S. customer brand recognition like Whirlpool is.

Lenovo is a chinese company that bought the corpse of an American one...why would they keep the employees that failed the company?

That's whole point of consolidation and buying competitor out..you get to save on costs by cutting redundancies ...business 101

Welcome to globalization...only idiots think they can not partake in it while enjoying its benefits lol

But Motorola has been bad for more than a decade and dead long before Google threw it's corpse out

At least the chinese are much better business owners than Motorola had for past decade

Nexus 6 was a pretty horrible phone...the worst Nexus phone by far

Moto g was okay for a cheapo entry phone but that market has long gone to the chinese...and even before Lenovo.. Motorola was horrible with updates...like abandoning moto e after less than a year and no support for moto x 2013

At least Lenovo is better at getting decent products that are somewhat attractive like moto z... The moto x pure was DOA with supposed flagship aspirations but with no fingerprint reader when even the Nexus 5x had it

This coming from someone currently replying on a moto x pure ...I got it because it was $200 USD
