We still haven't seen many laptops that compete with on sale IdeaPads when it comes price/performance. The $749 and $799 options offer excellent value if you ask me.

looks like an awesome deal...the only thing that would be icing is a nice 1600x900 or 1080 matte screen, then itd be a steal.

ya know, I listened to RFD when I bought a laptop and went for the 1900x1080 resolution on a 15" and stuff is too damned small for me, fonts, images, icons etc. I got a clevo with very similar specs to this Y570 for just under $1000 in December and the only real difference is the screen. If I hadn't already got the new machine, I probably would have sprung for this one.

i received the IdeaPad Y470p Laptop - 08552LU a few days ago and it has a English keyboard
a friend of mine ordered the IdeaPad Y570 - 08623SU and it has a bilingual keyboard

how do you guys think the y470p's AMD Radeon HD 7690 1GB compares to the y570's NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M 1GB?
from what i hear they are pretty identical in performance

Practically every Lenovo thread with a good laptop deal (or price error) goes on for many pages and invariably there are so many complaints about clueless or misinformed CSRs, major shipping delays/hassles/mistakes/etc., computer system doesn't show the order correctly, problems with returns..... in the past I've been tempted to bite but after reading about so many problems it just makes me wonder why Lenovo's processes are so confoundingly disjointed.

Hello,

The coupon does not seem to be working. Has it reached its limit?

NORTH YORK
I bought the same laptop during their Boxing Day doorbuster sale (in fact I'm typing this message on it now). Very happy with it, I saw a lot of mentions of the low resolution being a problem but it's good enough for me. Their website has a forum where a lot of people complain about their experience with CSRs and shipping times, but personally mine arrived something like 6 days after I put the order in without a hitch in North York. All the forum messages had me scared to death, looking for any status updates on my order but it all turned out to be for naught.

As for performance it's not exactly a gaming beast but it can run Starcraft 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 very smoothly and then Alice Madness Returns runs less smoothly. Seems like Alice might've just had some crappy developers, though.

For a university student who might be thinking of buying this and lugging it to class every day, I would opt for the 14-inch Y470, it would be better if you had a lecture where you were forced to type with it on your lap.

Its going to depend on which iteration of the GT 555M is in the y570. If it is a top end version then they are about equal, if not, then definitely the HD 7690. My overall recommendation is likely the HD 7690 - it plays pretty much all games on a good setting and your not dependent on how what version of the card and how it was setup by the manufacturer like you are with the GT 555M.

I believe the Lenovo y570 does use a better version of the GT 555M (it should at that price) and if so, you likely won't be disappointed either way.

Note that these are both end of lifecycle cards (and notebooks for that matter) so we might even see more price discounting in the future - but at least we are starting to see actual value in product vs price if only because what is in the pipeline makes these quite obsolete (although the new stuff is really price inflated imo).

Can someone please post their 3dMark06 score?

I checked www.notebookcheck.net, but they indicated there are several versions of this GPU.

Thanks.

actually it looks like it doesn't have better version --> In the other thread about this laptop it was mentioned that "The lenovo version only has 96 CUDA cores vs 144 in other versions. However, it is higher clocked, and has GDDR5 memory instead of DDR3 which makes a difference."

Comparison of GT555 versions

I don't know much about this stuff so not sure how much of an advantage gddr5 is but from the other thread it sounds like in benchmarks this 555m performs just as good as the average 555m

Honestly i think this y470p is a better deal in most areas

Y470p is over a pound lighter, has a better video card, bigger hdd, english keyboard, and the resolution will look a bit more impressive on the smaller screen

The only thing the y570 has going for it is the 7200rpm drive, which is not an issue if you plan to eventually throw in an SSD

The viewing angles on both are not great

This is all true, be warned, there will likely be some kind of annoying issue with your order
