[Best Buy] BB: Lenovo Thinkpad X61 12.1" Touchscreen Laptop Refurb, $220

Did a quick search couldn't find this on rfd. No sure if its a deal for everyone, but for me it is. Im throwing a ssd in this, and that should liven things up. As cheap as a low end tablet. Used this for work previously and its a great gadget with the touch screen and swivel screen.

CPU has a PassMark score of 930 on CPUBenchmark.net (higher is better).

A brand-new low-end ASUS X200MA-US01T-BL: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msc ... .298954100 at $299
has the Intel Bay Trail-M N2815 with a PassMark score of 929, higher resolution, more RAM, HDD, sleeker design etc.

An Intel Atom Z3745 such as in the Acer Aspire Switch and various other tablets & 2-in-1s has a PassMark score of 1123.

The cheapest Intel Chromebook at Best Buy has an N2830 with PassMark score of 1013.

Wow, the "Thinkpad" reputation for quality isn't what it was with today's teenagers.

I have one of these... bought it in 2007 i think? still going strong. case is cracked a bit and using an noname battery and I stuck an SSD in it.

I'd recommend it but at this price, you have a lot of better options with today's tech.

edit: just realized this is the x61T. ***Don't buy this tablet garbage.*** it's heavy and it doesn't even have the high-rez screen. the digitizer is pretty good though.

Edit: to clarify, I own the x61s. but i've still used the x61t extensively.

i have an x61t since when it was released and its still running strong. plopped in an SSD and it runs win7 just fine for browsing, coding, and office.
very solid machine, but i dont think its worth this much, especially since this is the low res version

the pen/stylus is amazing though, i used it throughout university for note taking and it was worth it

For what it's worth, you can order the larger screen as long as the LVDS cable can support the new resolution. Sadly, Lenovo has a history of not including full LVDS connections, instead sharing the bus with a webcam. However, it looks like the X61 screens are discontinued anyways sadly.

Cold deal from the following perspectives:
  • Performance
  • Price
  • Performance per kg ratio
  • Performance per dollar ratio
  • Display resolution
  • Web browsing capability (Javascript is going to be soooo slow on this)
  • Spare parts and batteries (lack of).
At the end of the day, it's not about the build quality of the product as much as what it can really do. Functional factors above how well it can drop.

to be fair, it's probably easier to hack with. the stylus has direction and pressure sensing so it's better for drawing. the keyboard will be vastly better than the detachable sort. and the general purpose CPU with a larger L2 cache may have better performance than a current power optimized CPU. but, yeah, I'd probably spend a bit more for something like the linked Asus model because as a tablet it's pretty clunky (and I'm typing this on an x220t), and this coming from a guy who just got a 'new' two year old model t530, but its specs are easily comparable to a current model costing much more.

Save your pennies and get a x201 or eventually x220 from IBM off lease.

for just $50 more you could have scored this during yesterday sale (which is better in every aspect) .

OP: please put price in title. This is, after all, Red Flag DEALS and price is a major factor.
