Chamberlain, $349 at Home Depot. Good luck finding a belt driven for $200, perhaps a garage sale! I remember these guys offering 'free install" Not sure if thats still on?

Aug 21st, 2005 06:07 PM #7only chain drives at that price - but chain drives are just as good, only louder. if you can install yourself you can save about $90.

Had a Chamberlain belt-drive 1/2 hp garage door opener installed through Home Depot on the weekend. The opener was $289 and they had a promotion running where the normal $120 installation charge was reduced to $75. If you get installation done through Home Depot, you don't pay the 7% GST on both the installation and the opener. It worked out to $390 taxes in & installed.
The opener comes with 2 remotes and the control console , but doesn't have the wireless keypad. It also comes with a lifetime warranty on the unit & belt.

Aug 29th, 2005 05:57 PM #11I installed myself, with a buddy of mine.... don't bother paying for the install.... do it yourself. It isn't hard. The instructions were pretty verbose. The toughest part is just making sure everything is lined up and solid (to eliminate rattling).

I just had a belt driven garage door installed last week and you could find the cheapest is $199+tax+install costs.
I bought one that was on special at Home depot it was a Chamberlain power series with infrared sensor and touchpad access just in case you forgot to bring a set of keys you can open the garage from a num panel outside the house.
I got the deal for $229+75 install + tax it came to $343. This is the best deal available and I looked all over BC.

The Chamberlain Power Drive series are chain-driven openers, not belt-driven. The belt-driven openers are the Whisper Drive series.

I am looking for a garage door opener for a two car garage that has one big door, and the door is insulated. Is a 1/2 HP opener adequate? I would think that it is more than adequate, but I have neve owned one, so I don't know.
The Sears promotion is good online until January of 2006, so if I can't find a better deal before then, I guess I am getting one of them!
I wish I had known about the Home Depot sale last week, or whenever it was . . .
Does anyone else know of sales on openers?

Aug 30th, 2005 11:58 AM #15Yes... it would be "adequate" but not necessarily recommended. I have a 1/2hp on my single door. I'd suggest getting a 3/4hp for your double.
