LF Philips DVP 642 Firmware v.1223
I heard this firmware is already out but is only available on new dvd players with manufactured dated April 2005 and newer, just wondering if anyone knows where to get this update.
Thanks and google didn't help.

Well this is weird:

The file "archive" for the 642 has been wiped clean of firmwares. I wonder why...
Re: LG, Pioneer. People here seem happy with the LG. The Pioneer costs like $200 or $300 bux so I dunno what's up with that one to make it so special._______________There's no billing mistakes when you get your TV and phone for free!

There's an interesting thread about the 642 at http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.ph...hilips+DVP+642
and firmware link http://home.ica.net/~robert/Philips/
Apparently firmware 0531 disables macrovision.

nice to hear if its true theirs new firmware.Theirs a yahoo group for the 642 I'l have to check.0513 is the older firmware most early buyers had it come with it.The rest were coming with 1109 I think. But if I remember rumor had it that better mp4 support would come with future firmware.Love to see nero digital on this thing.

I've did a bit of checking, 1223 is not the latest firmware, 0112 is. They name their firmware by date, so 1223 is released in Dec 23, 2004 and 0112 is Jan 12 2005. very strange and confusing way of doing it. 1109 is still the official firmware for DVP642, but you can download the 0112 from DVP630 models and use it.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I've updated to the latest firmware for my Philips 642 and now several rental DVD's have weird colour brightness issues! HELP!

Sometimes after you update the firmware the player is set into progressive mode IIRC. Make sure the settings are all adjusted correctly in the player menus. If your DVD menu appears purplish, that's probably the issue. It's normally blue.

Feb 22nd, 2006 09:08 AM #14Great! I'll check that. It's so wierd... I haven't played many DivX's for a while but the new firmware was supposed to play them better. Problem is, rental DVD's (especially older titles) would be very dark... gradually light up to "normal" for a few seconds, then fade dark again.
