LF: A subwoofer for my vehicle.
Hey guys,
I've just installed a Pioneer P4000 in my GTI (Mk.4) and I am pretty happy with it. I am trying to purchase a sub for my system on black friday in the states this week. Does anyone know any preticular brand that they'd recommend? I know that there is a Sony outlet in Seattle so I might look around there as well.
I personally don't want anything HUGE as I dont want it to eat my cargo space. I just want it big enough to fill the thump on my back when I yank the volume up. Also, I'd prefer NOT to install the amp although I might if I have to. I am looking to spend about $300-400 but it all depends how much bang I am getting for my buck.
Thanks guys!
Don
P.S I've posted a same thread on the car section as I didnt know where my thread would belong to. Feel free to delete/move my thread if needed.

You can get some decent thump for less than $400. I'd hazard a guess that you could get a decent amp, sub with box and install for around that figure (maybe a little more). I've got a 10" Rockford Fosgate sub that I got on sale for around $100, you can get a small box for around $50 if you look, I paid two hundred for a mono MTX amp (just to power the sub) and the install for the amp was around $75 (unless you can do it yourself). I get plenty of thump and they're not your no-name components. Not top of the line but they're very decent.

Thanks for your comment.
I am really thinking about purchasing a sub fron Sony. Are they alright or should I look for something else? (Sony outlet store is really close by my house) Also, I guess the sub needs the amp to power it on eh? I thought you could just plug right in to your stereo deck? (Thats what my friend did)

i find that JL, Focal and JBL sound the best. JBL u can find at many big box retailers such as bestbuy, but its going to be hard to find a deal on Focal and JL as they are truly high-end car audio speakers and there are only a handful of companies that are authorized resellers.
